VP Cheney Shoots Man

Heh. Great. You come walking up and the birds come over looking for snacks.

I was stuck in a bag and kidnapped today, fuck, help me, I’m lost and I can’t find the food dish. Hello? BLAM! Fuck, run away, run away… hey, this old guy looks friendlier… sir, sir, wtf is up. BLAM! Fuck, fuck, run away, run away.

Means a lot coming from a guy who probably takes his birds out of the plastic and microwaves them between posts. Very sporting.

Hahaha

Tempest in a teapot. I’m with Cheney on this one. Its an accident – let it go, for crissakes!!

I agree with you thunderbolt23, it’s easy to tell who the non huntin’ libs are ! The liberal press reports things like this so ignorantly, even the conservative press is bad. Any quail hunter from Texas has probably been peppered before - never made National news. Funny how how an idiot like John Kerry has a picture taken with a shotgun barrel pointing directly at near folks with his finger on the trigger (which easily proves he doesn’t know guns at all), and no one says a thing ? I wish politics would stay on politics and out of hunting and abortions ! BHW

I have NOTHING against hunting - matter of fact, I hunt and fish too. …but “canned” hunts and stocked ponds sorta defeat the purpose. I’ve always viewed a day fishing without catching a fish as a damned fine day anyways, because I got to spend it outside and basically doing nothing. Hunting? same thing. Hunt to enjoy nature (and hopefully harvest a piece of it to enjoy later on for dinner), not to compete with your buddies - shit, that’s what chess and Canasta are for.

LOL at “the liberal press”, as if any news media source would pass up a story like this. Some of you live in alternate realities to this one.

Hey brook. That’s a nice try. First, of all there is no way to sugarcoat (from your persepective) the FACT that more people pushed/pulled/punched George W. Bush’s name than any other President.

Second, I believe Ronald Reagan held the record for the number of votes received until George W. You do know that Reagan was President from 1980-1988?

There were several elections in between with the population growing all the while.

But, it was a nice try.

Sorry bud, I am a conservative republican.

I love what the Republican party USED to stand for: small government, no corruption, and fiscal RESPONSIBILITY. Neither of which Bush or Darth Cheney have pushed for. Hell, Clinton was more of a conservative than Bush is. And no, I never voted for Clinton.

Hopefully in '08 McCain will get the nod and rid of this neo-con element of the party that makes us all look like a bunch of crazy wackos.
McCain isnt exactly a hardcore republican either…see his stance on campaign finance reform.

I found this piece kind of amusing:

I’m just hoping he will be OK and recover… but the idea that this is somehow a big story or that there are whisperings of some kind of conspiracy are just silly. Cheney should have been more careful, no doubt… now can the story just go away? Is this really the most important thing to discuss such that it leads all the news reports on a daily basis? Sheesh.

Which is why I always laugh whenever I see yet another story about a hunter (any hunter) shooting another human being. Idiots.

Oh lord.

Doogie, I’m just asking because I don’t know.

Sometimes, in some situations, it seems like the authorities almost always file a charge, and I’m wondering if this is one of them.

Do people who are not involved in politics that kill someone while hunting get charged often?
Yes, that is standard. We’ll see what happens as the story progresses, I imagine.

JeffR,

I disagree. Numbers mean nothing when not put into perspective. The percentage of the population voting for a specific individual is a more telling statistic than sheer numbers.

No, I don’t think this is the most importatnt thing in the news, and I hope the guy is ok too. What it IS however, and the REASON it’s getting so much press, is that it is a VERY TELLING THING. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Would you trust Cheney (or ANYONE who has shot one of their best friends in a hunting accident while blatantly disobeying basic conduct) behind your back with a loaded gun? 'course not. Would you trust someone whom you wouldn’t trust with a gun to run the country!? …exactly.

UH oh, Fox News is reporting on it as well! Those damn liberals! Oh, wait.

LOL!

Regarding the MSM’s reaction…

…There’s this psychological theory called displacement. You can look it up.

Now the right wingnuts know how the leftwing nuts felt when Lewinsky was the hot topic.

Cheers!

Cheney’s incident happened on private property so it should remain private affair.

It sucks to note that Kerry received more votes for POTUS than Reagan did.

Howard Kurtz has the media round up on this story:

One would think OJ was running for the border in a white Bronco or Michael Jackson was moonwalking on a limo in front of a courthouse for the level of attention this is getting.

Perhaps there are some real news items to cover?

I think everyone would agree that the someone as high profile as the VP accidentily shooting a hunting partner will get press time. That’s just the nature of the political beast.

But I think it’s important to keep in mind that even someone as intelligent and high profile as the VP is human and therefore not immune to mistakes. Yes it was a dumb mistake, but how many of us haven’t done dumb things that could’ve seriously injured either ourselves or a friend?

Yes Cheney made a ptentially fatal mistake, but we should remember that this is a long time hunter who accidentally shot a friend while hunting. I would imagine that he is going through quite a bit right now and I personally wouldn’t want to shoulder this much guilt.

Also it’s important to remember that it’s prbably just a slow news cycle right now. I mean if there were better news stories to cover I’m sure they would.

Lucasa,

Lighten up man, I was joking, I thought the description of birds flying over looking for food was funny.

I’m guessing you were thinking I was launching a political attack or something? I’m genuinely fascinated by this, it is completely out of the ordinary.

If you are right wing, I’m sure you’d like this to be non-news, but the rest of the world is simply amazed… finally a “shock and awe” campaign that is working!
