You’re talking like if you were 60. Things change very fast. Now it’s much easier to find what you like and not everyone likes the same, like, those things you listed. There’s something I see you do often and I already told you about it, assuming that everyone likes to do X and Y. This is just not true.
I can’t, still at this age, sit with people at some random place and talk about random stuff. For me it’s incredibly boring, uncomfortable and I don’t enjoy it. For the same reasons I didn’t do that in my youth. Many people of my age stayed outside, just talking and socializing. I preferred to go play football (soccer) every evening (to eventually play in two different teams at same time) and after that, go to this small videogames store to play Doom 2 by LAN or Tekken 2 in the PSX.
I play videogames, especially on my off days, because they help me to disconnect totally and relax like nothing else does. I need time for myself (alone) to recover mentally and emotionally and videogames allow me that. Watching movies or TV series doesn’t have the same effect because I really like the interactivity of videogames and challenges.
For me, they are not a substitute for anything in real life. I can’t chase, in real life, a guy through Rio de Janeiro favelas to prevent the third Worldwide War, but I sure enjoy doing it virtually.

Your last line is the point I’m making. Fundamentally we agree. Kids are missing out though. Plain and simple.
Missing out what exactly?
People should do what they enjoy and that includes children.
I remember having a similar discussion with a relative because he, in his youth, played some “outside games” and stuff and I didn’t even know them. Am I missing out something because of this? I doubt it.
You can still play videogames and ride around the neighbourhood though. Videogames, like many things, become a problem when there’s an excess. But it’s the same with watching TV.

We are still basically saying the same thing. I played videogames and cruiesed the neighborhood as my posts clearly state.
I do like debating with you edevus but there just isn’t one here.
And they are missing out on everything I listed.
To put it in broader pop-culture terms, think of life as a movie.
Sandlot, Little Giants, The Goonies et cetera are indicative of fullfilling childhoods.
What would a movie about kids today even look like? A bunch of fat asses sitting on a couch for two hours? No thanks.
A movie would be like WarGames…which is from 1983 wink
But now seriously, missing out something it depends on how the person is. There’s just too many factors to just state that someone is “missing out something if he doesn’t/didn’t do X”.
It’s like someone from an era of only radio telling us that we are missing out because of how awesome radio was and how you actually had to speak to people directly before cell phones.
Video games = good.
Never been to Egypt…but I have slain a giant demon who was spawned out of some ancient ritual involving an amulet I found on a recent archeological dig. It was amazing. I died 4 times, but managed to figure out how to work the device left by Nikola Tesla before he died.
Yes, I saved the world…twice…and all you got was some baseball game in a sand lot.

interpersonal communication, nature and competition are all aspects of life everyone will face, whether they embrace it or not.
Hiding from any of it in an imaginary world sucks, plain and simple.

So let people have it at its own pace. I’m not a fan of talking about random stuff in person with people I barely know. If I can avoid talking with people, I do so. By internet I can choose the topics, my own pace, etc.
Competition? Are you implying videogames have no competition? E-Sports are growing very fast.

Not being a smart ass, real vs. fake.
Radio argument is pretty bunk. Cell phones increased interpersonal communication while radio is effective for mass communication.
Video games are a distraction. Fun, but distracting when overplayed.
PM if you care, would hate to ruin this thread again, (j’k who cares) but do you still lift at 24 hr on richmond? and is the offer to train still on the table? I’m a morning guy now.

[/quote]No offense but you would have been that weird kid on the block. I guess videogames are better than “magic” or “dungeons and dragons.”
E-sports equal lo fucking l. You can’t reset life and try again, punch in cheat codes or manipulate coding.
