Vegas Shooter Kills 50+

My other observations regarding this:

  1. Shooting like this guy did is nothing special. Shooting like this guy did for ~ an hour is a fucking beating. He doesn’t look like he was in good enough shape to do it. Maybe he was or maybe he was just spraying. But I don’t think I could have done it and I had a total of 4 tours in Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan. I would, very carefully, look at the videos over the course of several days and see if there was more than one person in that room. More people means many things: one being he could have been a patsy.

  2. I am not overwhelmed, one way or the other, with his number of weapons. I own more. If you hunt more than one thing, do sporting clays, do Western shooting, do 3 gun competitions, carry a handgun, and just plink, you are up to 25 guns you use regularly and 20 that you bought and don’t like for one reason or another.

  3. I am not going to dismiss Isis’s ownership of this. With the exception of (ironically) a botched casino robbery overseas, they’ve been truthful. Pretty much the only reason people doubt this is he’s an old white guy. I’m not one to say someone has “white privilege,” but that’s pretty much really white privilege. He’s Isis until proven something else.

  4. I am shocked Vegas didn’t have a plan to cut all the lights in a coordinated fashion when something like this happens. Darkness is your friend here. All cities need to be able to do this promptly in a sniper situation.

I don’t think he was shooting for an hour. It seems he started shooting at 10:08 and the police were outside his room by 10:24. It took them a while to break in, but it appears that he had stopped shooting by that point. So about 15 minutes of shooting.

You know what you’re doing, and you’re far more experienced that I. Some reports now are saying that he used a bump stock rather than a sear.

Possible. It’s just absurdly easy. Here, ten second search, fourth item down:

Parts total costs: about $30.

Fully in agreement here. Also of note, most firearms collections happen 1 or 2 at a time every year, over a period of many years. It would be incredibly difficult to manage that and I don’t think they should try. I believe you’re right about the murder, it’s got to be less than 3 total thru all the years post regulation with full auto weapons.

Guns are not illegal in France.

He’s ISIS until until proven something else?

How about he’s just a guy until proven something more? You don’t need a narrative just for the sake of having a narrative.

True. I sold reloading supplies to France. Private citizens may not own semi-auto or full-auto rifles though. I believe black market Belgium sourced full autos are what were used in the Paris attacks. Suicide vests are illegal everywhere so… the laws dont seem to matter.

I believe @pat was referring to the Paris attacks and the autos used there.

ISIS put out a statement claiming him. Only one of their claims of terrorist involvement has been false. That’s the best information we have on him other than the dodgy web-slueth stuff I found… which is less credible than ISIS.

And it still isn’t a fact. I don’t get why people need to know/believe something, even if false, rather than wait for the facts.

People are discussing a current event. Motive of mass murders is more than relevant no? Speculation is all a part of discussion.

Stating that you are going with a specific narrative until further notice is not speculation. Here’s the quote: “He’s Isis until proven something else.”

I hope they don’t. There is nothing you can do about shit like this. People who want to hurt a lot of people will. We need to not live afraid to do what we want. I won’t give assholes the satisfaction.

The rednecks in PA are for sure a different breed.

No, but they have a lot of restrictions. Many of which are being sold as the solution to the mass shooting problem.

I’m not.

What I’m honestly curious about is how he got that many guns into his hotel room without anyone being the least bit suspicious about his intent.

Has there been any news on this?

No I under stand France to be as the majority of EU countries to have very strict gun laws where the average citizen cannot buy a gun, but requires specialized reasons to own a gun. So no, guns are not illegal in France but they are not easily obtained in a legal manner.
And despite this fact has had incidents of epic gun violence, by no legal gun owners.
So I was referring to gun violence in France. They average french citizen is not constitutionally granteed to be able own fire arms. Yet, that has not stopped the terrorist attacks using guns. You cannot legally by a Russian AK47 in Paris.

Whew! Thank God I have a gun room and about 1500 rounds of target ammo. I have in total about 100 rounds of defense ammo, locked loaded and ready to go.
The only way you’ll get the pointy end of the stick is if you try to gravely endanger my family. So i am no snowflake.

How he got that with out blip ping the radar is beyond me unless this was planned years in advance. I grantee if I tried to get 1000 rounds of ammo at one time or aquire 40+ weapons I would have drawn some attention. Even in GA.
Contrary to popular belief gun owners are suspicious folk.
