Vacationing to Australia

My girlfriend and I are planning a vacation to Australia in about 7 months from now. I am interested in hearing other’s experiences in australia, such as what you did there, how many days you spent, and what traveling agency you used to go there. Thanks.

Well I went there in '99/2000, but I was still a little shit. I stayed in Brisbane with family that had just moved there a few months before.

Anyway, have a look into Stradbroke Island or one of those just off the coast around that area, you can camp out on the beach and it is (as far as I remember) exceptional scenery.

You are a very lucky man.

Remember not to touch those clear plastic looking things in the water.

Damn, guess i should cross that off my “To Do” list.

For sure I would like to go to the barrier reef, Tasmania, and the outback, everything else is up in the air.

I was in Australia for about a little less then 2 weeks. Gold cost for about 4 days. A decent amount of jelly fish(both the clear ones and the small purple ones) on the shore. Never noticed anybody getting stung. Lots of parties(most needed passes) since the drink age there is 18. Lots of college kids. Be sure to wear sunscreen, I didn’t and came back toast(very little ozone there, malinoma is very common.

around 5 days
Sydney was nice, touristy. Dad went to sydney opera house, I didnt really want to. Wasnt that great he said. The needle tower was cool too. Fish market was lame I heard(they went in in the evening). Good sushi.

4 days i think
Victoria
He fly in at the airport in the middle of no where, it was horrible. Driving there is way different since they have the buses on tracks. We got there when it was around 110 every day, was horrible. Victorian market was completely awesome, lots of fresh fruit, good bread, fresh turkey and cheese. Victorian market was about the best thing they had there.

All the hotels we used wotif.com pretty dam cheap. They have pretty cheap flights there too.

Well, what are your interests? I live in Aus, but it is a big fkn country - lots of variety depending on what you want to do.

Dont do it buddy

All we do down here is ride on the back of kangaroo’s and drink fosters.Put a few shrimp on the BBQ.
Then head to the outback to wrestle crocodiles. When we have some free time we hang out around the dunny and call everyone one fair dinkum wankers.

Nah just kiddin,u yanks have some fairly vivid imaginations when it comes to Australia,Tv is to blame for that.

My advice to u is to stay out of Victoria and South Australia they are both as boring as bat shit.
Go to the beaches in Western australia and the gold coast in Queensland,Do a harbour bridge climb in Sydney,go to out nations capital (canberra) this place has legal porn, fireworks and just about every other “good things” that are illigal everywhere else.Just ask for a place called (fyshwick)

Since u will be here in our summer time ,go watch a game of cricket in sydney.
After all that go up to the northern territory and talk with the aboriginals.be aware that place gets mighty hot.

Thats all i can think of at the moment.PM me if u want further info.

Provided you can actually spend a bit while you are over here you should be able to do all of the following which would encompass pretty much all the major Aussie tourist spots and landmarks. I’ve grouped them by state:

Queensland:

  • Great Barrier Reef/Whitsunday Islands
  • Gold Coast

New South Wales:

  • Sydney (Bondi Beach, Harbour Bridge climb, take the ferry to Manly beach (actually most of the beaches are great), museums, Taronga zoo, harbour cruises, a whole bunch of other stuff like tours if you want to learn about Australia plus there’s bushwalking/camping in the National parks on the outskirts)

  • Blue Mountains (west of Sydney) has bushwalking, scenic railway (in Katoomba), heaps of great lookouts for sightseeing.

  • North Coast: Heaps of different towns, most with great beaches, just avoid it at the Christmas holiday period because everyone heads there for summer holidays.

  • South Coast: as for the North Coast but more scenic and less “touristy”, plus it’s colder so there are other things to do except just going to the beach!

Victoria:

  • Melbourne (shopping, heaps of sport events and not much else, but then again I’m from Sydney and won’t say too many good things about Melbourne, LOL!)

  • Philip Island: See the penguins come back from feeding in the ocean to land at night, amazing thing to watch.

  • Great Ocean Road: Apparently very similar to the drive along the Californian coast. Heaps of natural landmarks, lots of small towns where you learn heaps about Aussie history and an awesome road to drive on. If I went back again I would hire an open-topped sports car to do it!

Australian Capital Territory: This is where Canberra, the capital city is located. If you want to learn about Oz history this is the place to go, heaps of museums and national institutions, some nice scenery but not much else.

Tasmania: Heaps of natural scenery, especially the Cradle Mountain area. This is the most unspoilt area of the country.

Northern Territory: Kakadu National Park (this is where you will encounter all the things which will eat or poison you!), Uluru (or Ayers Rock).

South Australia: Barossa Valley (wine region), swimming with great white sharks. I’ve never been to SA so I don’t know that much.

Western Australia. Never been there but it takes up about a third of the country so there are things to do there!

Hope this helps give you some ideas. Of course there are many other things to do, it depends how long you will be travelling.

Cheers,

Ben

Change the kangaroos to pirogues, the Fosters to Bud, and the crocs to gators, and you have what people think we do here.
