Yeah that was the 2004 Occupy HK or something protests. I can’t remember the trigger but I don’t think it devolved into riots. Anthony Wong(Ebola Virus, Infernal Affairs Trilogy) got banned from acting after that. Pretty fucked up. One of my favorite actors.
If she became president, well, I will have moved out of the country at the first sign it was a possibility. People claim some college degrees are useless but my belief is that there are no useless college degrees but there are useless college graduates.
She never had a real job before getting elected. That tells you how useless she is. She couldn’t get a job so she conned a bunch of poor people into thinking she was one of them. I’m more of a POC than she.
LOL, remember I’m old. I think it was the tail end of this:
From the 1950s onwards, in response to successive popular riots sparked as much by inadequate basic economic living standards as by political discontent, the British authorities cracked down sharply on disorder
The chance (possibility seems an inappropriate word choice somehow) of something like this happening is why (hopefully), aside from the presidency, the election was more of a step backwards for said chance.
Alabama will still be safe from AOC I’m sure.
Others on this chat have said something similar, but I honestly don’t get it. Is she not poc or do you mean she’s not from working class? I know little about her background.
We just had a billionaire who convinced a lot of poor people that he represented them and stood for them. And he did it on a much higher level. She makes a lot of noise and gets coverage but I wouldn’t worry about her being a Presidential candidate anytime soon.
Conning people apparently ain’t tough. Maybe I keep getting those car extended warranty calls because they are getting money from some!
It was similar in other Commonwealth Countries. It was the commies that fucked shit up with all the riots and protests. That’s why the Brits took it so seriously. The Brits were the ones who passed those sedition laws in the 50s-60s that the CCP is making use of right now with certain amendments. They(the commies) were considered lucky. South Korea and Taiwan just massacred them lol.
The triads were only dealt with in the '70s-'80s.
But that’s the thing I’ve been saying here for years. You willingly let the government pass new laws like that in times when shit happens just for your own convenience, they can be used against you later when there’s something really valid to protest against.
EDIT:
I think you’re referring to this(?):
Wait, no it was even earlier when the sedition laws were passed. 1938-1950.
There were already commies fucking shit up prior to that.
South Korea just killed all of them lol:
EDIT:
For @loppar too since he’s probably interested in this stuff:
Commie networks in South Asia.
She’s white. Hispanic, Latina, Puerto Rican are not races or colors. She’s a white woman who grew up in the suburbs. However, POC does not really have anything to do with color or race but is a term that means a different kind of white. But POC sounds cooler and more victim like than saying non Anglo white or something. It won’t get you a seat at the victim table.
But he didn’t say he was one of them.
I think after this election Cubans are back to being white again.
I wouldn’t say these people are overly worried.

Thanks. If I hear someone speak Spanish I want to ask them who their favourite footballer is and why xavi Alonso. And that shows you why I don’t really get the Poc discussion in America or why the seeming racism/bigotry against them.
You watch?
I enjoyed and it was a hell of a game.
Absolutely. I’m a football nut and I schedule work as best as I can around Saturdays and Sundays. I enjoy other sports but nothing like football season. Watched every snap.
Saturday’s and Sunday’s are my “paperwork” days where I just watch football and work during commercials.
She seems to be pretty good at “code switching” though. I’ve been noticing it cos I do it all the time here.
Jane Eyre was great. Pride and Prejudice is an absolutely phenomenal “chick” book that has some of the most excellent dry Brit one line humor I’ve read, although given the nature of the language and writing I imagine it is difficult to catch in translation for a non-native English speaker. Nonetheless, that was the point that originally sold me on the book with others coming later.
I’ve several friends that are diehard non-fiction readers, so I know what you mean. If you ever do end up going back to fiction for a change, you might consider it.
Hey now, college football is life!
Note to Biden: If second stimulus passes put your name on all the checks!
I’ve only watched this:
And it bored me to death. Yes, I have no soul. ![]()
Let’s talk 2024. Think Trump will run? To all the Republicans in this thread - would you vote for him in a primary over a more traditional Republican knowing what you know now about how he governs? I guess that begs the question, who would try to go up against him in a primary? This would be the first modern primary where a contender was a former POTUS. Trump would of course feel entitled to the nomination, which would make for some entertaining debates.
I’m going to go on record now and say Trump will be the 2024 Republican nominee. Why? Well, I don’t think rank and file Republicans (to include the new ones he brought into the party) are done with Trump yet, and also because there’s no downside to making such a proclamation on t-nation.
I’ve already said this but personally I think the odds are incredibly low.
People can talk all they want about how it was closer than expected but assuming we don’t get massive recount changes Trump is going to be a first term loser in a country that almost never does that. If AZ and Georgia hold it’s not a close loss electorally and it’s a massive defeat for the popular vote for the second time. Turnout being high doesn’t erase that fact and we also don’t know what turnout would be like in 2024 if things go back to a more traditional sense. We’ve never given people this much time and options to vote before Election Day. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this revert towards the mean for both parties in 2024. I wouldn’t imagine smart party people on both sides expect this type of turnout to be the new normal especially if we don’t have as many early voting options in 2024 since we aren’t in a pandemic.
I think Trump stays “in” politically because money can be made that way and it’s going to be far easier than his traditional ways. But I don’t think he’s dying to run again at all. He might be dying to talk about it but he says a lot of things he won’t do.
I think a big reason you won’t see this until later is because no reason exists to right now. The last thing rank and file Republicans want right now is to make a guy who has no problem taking every slight out of proportion to get mad at you. It’s a long time until 2022, 2024 so why risk it? A person with unlimited time and a laser like focus to hold grudges isn’t what you want.
Of course not. No more or less than anyone who messed up their predictions in here. We don’t know for sure but I would easily bet money on poor odds that he is the GOP candidate in 2024. I think he’ll give lip service to it for awhile but I would be incredibly surprised if he wins the nomination. And yes I realize pundits are going to talk about him running in the short term and already are. But I think that talk dies down a lot in the next year or two.
All that said if he really really wants to do that he would be the front runner on brand alone.
