We’ve lowered the bar a bit but hopefully we can get back to leading. Who knows. At the least I’m expecting our world leader to spend less time on Twitter. Who knows we are incredibly divided. But we have been before. Hopefully with someone who is trying to be unifying that gets better but I don’t know. We could be fucked either way. But I also think people have been saying the end of America since we started. I tend to think we’re pretty resilient.
Weirdly the only wall it seems Trump built in four years was a blue one though.

It’s my personal opinion that the Dems started losing the branding war when they began to pivot away from moderate policy (think Bill Clinton) and towards more far left stuff ala identity politics. I wasn’t alive in the 70s but reading back on history of the parties it seems to me that the Democrats had a strong branding ability through the 80s and into the early 90s.
They need to just stop. Just stop already. Because it’s going to water down the term to the point where it’s not impactful. As for Bernie, I think he’s just decided to own the label that gets thrust on him by everyone else (who again should not be using it in so cavalier a fashion).

Not sure when they lost it. But Obama was the biggest socialist ever or something and he was going to turn us into Venezuela I guess. Affordable care act and trying to invest in infrastructure or schools was full blown socialism and he was destroying the country. After 8 years the Republicans ran someone who wanted infrastructure weeks (maybe that’s next week?), wanted healthcare for all even cheaper, and said defaulting on the debt wasn’t a big deal.
And somehow Dems through all that remained socialists and someone who ran on far more socialist sounding things wasn’t. That’s what I mean by lost the branding war.
Maybe Biden doesn’t want to be in the White House?

Americans describing Bernie, Obama, Kamala, etc as socialist/communist amuses me to no end. I live in Australia but my family is originally from the USSR and I still have extended family that live in Russia. If you went back to the USSR and told them that these multi-millionaire, former lawyers (in most cases), who all own multiple houses and have book deals are communists who want to turn the US communist, you would just get laughed at.
It’s also very strange to me that the whole SJW movement (gay & trans issues, BLM, etc) is portrayed as a socialist/communist thing by many on the right. Pretty sure no socialist country has ever had pride parades or given any special consideration to gay or trans people - quite the opposite. Being gay was illegal in the USSR for the entirety of its history, and polls taken even in the comparatively “liberal” late 80’s/early 90’s showed that the majority of the population were extremely homophobic, with a sizable number wanting to isolate homosexuals from the population or even just kill them off entirely. Similar when it comes to race. So these communist/socialist labels that get thrown around in the media are just silly.

I don’t know much about the USSR, but weren’t the top communist leaders wealthy? Stalin didn’t live in a palace? I know Kim Jong-un does, and is ultra wealthy.
Is not like Bernie or whoever would push socialism and want to be one of the peons at the bottom.
Plus there are levels aren’t there? Just because America wouldn’t be full blown socialist doesn’t mean a certain level of socialism can’t be enacted over time. And that’s the issue I think, is they do this one tiny bit at a time. America wouldn’t stand for someone declaring supreme power and turning America into a socialist country overnight. But if they take away your rights, bit by bit, and enact SLIGHTLY socialist policies bit by bit, then one day you wake up and you don’t recognize your country anymore.
They don’t have to force it on you all are once, because they condition you over time to accept it as normal and even necessary.
Like I said I don’t know much about it, that’s just my 2 cents.
