US Presidential Election Predictions

Yes, I’m addition to the policy mistakes, the PR was an even bigger disaster for Trump. In theory it could have been great for him politically - a chance to step up and really take on a crisis and win and give the country something to cheer about (which might turn around his flagging ratings, which recall were not good even pre-COVID).

Instead, he lied, he exaggerated control and success, he whined when things didn’t go well, he insulted hardworking experts who dedicated their lives to fighting these kinds of problems, he blame-cast, he sniveled, he threw tantrums.

In other words, everything you don’t want to see from a leader in a crisis.

Those aren’t actual solutions or actions.

Saying “I wouldn’t have…” isn’t a solution. It’s Monday morning quarterbacking a pandemic.

Edit: I botched the quotes.
TB:

There are a couple of decent suggestions in there, which I’ve already heard and we’re dismissed for one reason or another.

But the expedite this and that, already been done.

Interestingly enough though, you’re actually the first and only person that actually put forth any posative actions.

Thanks for that.

I shall place that in the requisite rubbish receptacle then.

You must not have been watching these. I actually did.

They were actually very informative.

Maybe I misread what you were asking. Solution like solve it I have no idea. If I did I wouldn’t be posting on T nation. I’d be rich.

I also don’t think it’s Monday morning quarterbacking to be pro test. That’s something the President is still complaining about. We shouldn’t be mad that we are testing if anything we should be mad we aren’t testing nearly enough.

Also not Monday morning quarterbacking to not drag doctors and scientists at every turn and take a divisive tone instead of a United one.

None of that would solve the puzzle but I took your what would you do as what would you do differently and not right now.

Edit: whoops maybe that wasn’t for me.

The problem is, not really. The US was well behind the rest of the world in terms of response time on stuff - and we lost around two months while we dithered with the whole “it’s under control, going away by Easter” nonsense.

That’s all you need to say.

Everything beyond that is just “Trumps a big meanie! I hate him!”.

My calculus remains the same. I think Biden loses and loses because of the riots and the fossil fuel comments.

If I’m wrong, I will happily say so, Lord knows I ate plenty of crow on my last set of predictions.

No. Really. They absolutely expedited the purchase, distribution and manufacture of more ppe and medical equipment.

No, but they affect the public’s understanding and response and confidence. You can’t argue the (terrible) communications had zero effect.

The communication from Dr’s Fauci and Birx Every Day was Crystal Clear.

I was literally sitting there with nothing else to do watching it.

And a large amount of ventilators, which are now seen as less useful, but certainly weren’t in the early days.

See figure 1, we were well behind the response time curve in developing tests:

Even when it was being undermined by the President? How is it clear whem you’re getting mixed messages?

It’s so ironic/amusing/insertappropriateadjectivehere that no one ever stops to wonder why The Donald chose twitter as his primary method of “communication”.

I don’t even bother clicking on any of these twitter links anymore.

If someone ignores the advice from a subjects most eminent professionals in favor of a politicians, there is no help for them.

We’ll, isn’t that exactly what legions of Trump supporters did re: masks, etc.?

Trump counterprogrammed Blix and Fauci, and they listened to the politician instead of the scientists.

So, what are you saying?

You can’t stockpile that which does not exist. Manufacturers don’t just run production full throttle 24/7, and sit on millions of dollars of finished inventory for about a kajillion reasons.

And tests- Which ones? The ones that also didn’t exist, or the ones that weren’t worth a single shit?

That coupled with the fact that flawed testing isn’t preventive, why bother?

So that people feel better while it continued to spread? So that they don’t panic?

I wouldn’t tell the government who I was hanging around with or where I went.

I’m saying that there is no help for them.

You can’t tell people that stupid anything. It just doesn’t work.

Like that anti-mask dude on here that insisted on running at the mouth no matter how dumb he looked

You can point and laugh all you want and say “Typical Trump supporter” but you really ought to count your blessings that he isn’t on the Blue team, or he’d be just as dumb in a different direction.
