I ask because holy hell have my shoulders felt great with all of the various overhead work. Granted that ranges from bands an 9 lb bottom up kb presses to double 70 presses and snatches at lower reps, but everything has felt fantastic so far.
The ultimate test imo. If Trump wins, the accuracy and relevance of MSM media polls will be universally disdained, and their reputations irreparably damaged.
I’d say it’s more performance-based. Orthopedically I think kettlebells are in many ways a great tool. There are aspects about the kettlebell that challenge the stabilizers and tend to reduce irritation in the shoulders much more than a barbell, with the two biggest factors I think being the unbalanced load and the fact that you can get more out of a lighter weight than you can with a comparatively weighted dumbbell.
That said I think proper overhead mechanics and mobility reduce irritation with barbells overhead to almost nil, but that’s not something that everyone has.
The bigger thing for me is that I feel the clean and snatch with kettlebells are inherently different than the bar. In a barbell snatch the turnover is extremely quick and violent by design. If you do that with a kettlebell you may break your forearm. So it fundamentally changes aspects of the mechanics in snatch and clean. From a performance standpoint I also don’t think it allows the most weight to be used, which for a high-level athlete or lifter is one of the primary drivers of performance gains.
That’s possible, but I think that would be a poor conclusion to draw. If you read that article one of the things that both pollsters point out is that their peers don’t seem to have judged their polling techniques to account for psychological factors or the internet way of doing things in 2020. In this case I don’t think that would be an MSM issue as much as a methodology issue. And methodology being similar across the board makes more sense.
Yes? I think so. Their concern seems to be that not enough people changed technique in the interim. Or perhaps, they didn’t change technique enough. This wouldn’t be the first time people who want to be accurate have been slow on the uptake.
Remember, I’m talking “MSM”. I was told Gallup lies when I talked about their (pre-pandemic) poll showing 56% of Americans said they were better off than 4 years ago.
Thanks for telling be exactly what I want to hear.
It seems obvious to me that the only thing barbell lifting shares with kettlebell lifting is bracing and naming conventions.
I find KBs much more accessible than Olympic lifting and I’m finding newfound lifting joy with the task of refining a new set of movements. It is especially fun with a double 26-53 set as well.
Double 70 meets every conception of “heavy” I’ve ever had, so I’m curious to find out where that leads. It just hits so different than a barbell.
I think I said that it’s possible that those people could be telling the truth, but that other factors push them towards supporting a different candidate.
I feel it is very important to separate the MSM from the polling groups. Polling groups by and large want to be accurate. The MSM wants clicks, views, and readers. It is more of a business and less of an attempt at anything resembling “science”. To me these are different groups and issues.
I do feel that there is a bias in the MSM, but probably not to the degree that you feel the same. But I do share that viewpoint. I just believe that these are two separate issues.
Hah! You’re welcome. As far as the lifts go, you might be surprised to find that there are a lot of people who feel that they are pretty much the same except for the fact you do one with a single arm versus two arms on a bar.
I think for general strength and fitness kettlebells are amazing. No argument at all. But I also coach Olympic lifting and some higher level athletes, so I tend to look at things through that view. What kettlebells gain in terms of balance, stabilizer recruitment, and asymmetry they give up in terms of power output. Neither is bad It just depends on where your priorities need to sit.
I’m 40. Give me stability, strength and arms that don’t radiate pain very often.
I’ll still chase a bit of strength too, but I don’t have enough vertical space to strict press anything but a kettlebell indoors. Luckily I’m a few wrench turns away from a basement squat rack I reclaimed on Tuesday.
I predict barbell squats no matter how the election shakes out.
One thing to take note about is that INTERNATIONAL NEWS outlets also reprint(paid) stories from US left leaning mainstream media and rarely from Fox so some parts of the world are getting pretty one-sided news about US politics in their local news. I’m not talking about China.
