US Presidential Election Predictions

Hopefully since he is continuing to fleece his supporters by begging for donations that he is building a war chest for his defense and while he’s at it he may want to splurge and hire some qualified lawyers, lol fucking Giuliani?

Outstanding.

Why not trump steaks?

Fantastic idea! I’ll have Mexico pay for them.

This is why Trump’s full on media-bashing was an immediate red flag for me. The electorate should hold the media to high standards, and call out news outlets when they step out of line, but “lying media” coming out of a candidate’s mouth had my hackles up immediately, because I have lived and worked in places where the Fourth Estate had little power.

If you can get people to place the BBC and a blogger at the same trust level, you can shape their thoughts however you want.

Agreed 100%. It’s absolutely relevant in that it has an impact - a corrosion in the trust in our institutions. Though it’s irrelevant for purposes of legal proof, it’s definitely not harmless - and it’s probably the most dishonorable act of Trump and his minions (which is hard to do, given the list runs the length of a set of encyclopedias).

I’d suggest that you don’t. In the future, when enough people are pissed off at them due to the rise of worthless youtube bums like Tim Poole, they may eventually start calling for press censorship.

Not saying it will happen but the possibility can’t be ruled out. Seen it happen in real time over here.

Better to call them out now so they tone their shit down a bit.

I get that and I’m not defending it. Merely saying it’s a pipe dream. Sensationalism gets clicks and clicks keep you in business. More competition than ever for our attention. Hard to do the “right” thing if your site goes under.

I’m not even sure if anyone could agree on what the right thing is or who the MSM is.

Here’s another loss in court for Trump although it’s not tied to the election. It is however, tied to Trump trying to turn a neutral government news agency into his own propaganda machine. Read on:

That’s Authoritarianism 101. Own the media (Berlusconi), disparage the media (Trump), or kill/imprison the media (Putin/Taylor/Babangida/Erdogan/ad infinitum).

Trump has a long history of praising (and being jealous of dictators).

I’m not sure I’d give Trump that much power. I say we ourselves as the voting public have a lot to do with the present state of things as well. But, yes he has done a lot of damage. A lot.

It’s funny I recall getting heat on here for a lot of things I criticized Obama for, but now that the other team is in office and I say the same things I’ve gotten heat from other people (a good amount just in the interests of spirited debate, of course, which is fine by me).

Goes back to something DeAndre said above–not everything your team does is virtuous and everything the Other Side does is criminal. It can’t and shouldn’t be that way.

Same here. Words matter, and while I’ve been on record here saying that I do think the media has a leftward slant, that’s not the same as “lying media”. Trump went well beyond normal and reasonable complaints–and let’s be honest, the media definitely did some hatchet work as well that deserved it.

Trump made it a practical platform plank from nearly day 1. And let’s be honest - he instigated a lot of it. If you spend years shitting on the media, banning certain reporters you don’t like from white house access, etc… can you really be surprised when they get fed up and use their platform against you?

I’d have to say it’s number 1 for me too. I can’t stand to see someone actively trying to throw our country’s institutions under the bus for his own selfish ends.

Agree here. The press should bear the most scrutiny regardless of what side one is on, because the consequences for losing a free press are so disastrous.

@treco Sign me up for that dinner!

It is, and it’s surprising it took him so long to realize he had a media company he could control right under his nose the whole time.

Uh oh, looks like Christie is not going to get a Christmas card this year:

“I have been a supporter of the president’s,” Christie said. “I voted for him twice, but elections have consequences, and we cannot continue to act as if something happened here that didn’t happen.

"You have an obligation to present the evidence. The evidence has not been presented, and you must conclude, as Tucker Carlson even concluded the other night, that if you are unwilling to come forward and present the evidence, it must mean the evidence doesn’t exist.”

I think something needs to be made clear: Mussolini and Hitler had ideological agendas whereas Trump and Berlusconi are about making money.

Everyone in that list, except perhaps Erdogan, cares or cared very much about money.
