I don’t want to derail the thread and although I do enjoy posting, an issue I’ve had lately is not having time to post thorough responses in conversations I’ve participated in and threads I’ve started.
So I’ll make this succinct as I can.
First, I consider it degenerate. And it was hard to drop because much of what is degenerate feels and sounds great.
Second, i have a personal familial litmus tear. That is, if I don’t want my children doing something now or in the future, I don’t partake or at least attempt not to.
Third, I’m in RCIA for conversion to Catholicism, as as states in the religion thread. My wife is Catholic and my kids are baptized and we’ve decided to raise them with actual religious involvement. Death metal and rap cannot be a part of that. Neither can any entertainment that overemphasizes or glorifies Nihilism, death, destruction, whorishness, evil, senseless violence, impulsivity, and every filthy thought one can imagine. Two weeks before my first RCIA session, I deleted all death and black metal my phone and I haven’t listened to it or much music at all since.
Perhaps the topic can be a thread of its own and I’d like to participate considering this is only a response post and not meant to derail this one.
