Thanks Joe. I see that Nietzche’s aphorism is true for you in working the Smolov routines.
“That which does not kill me, makes me stronger.”
It’s a funny little gym, mostly dedicated to training MMA wanna-bes. Nobody has commented on the lifting style or looked askance at the dropping of weights, and I’m pretty happy to have a place to do this “weird” stuff.
The only downsides may be that I’ve no one to train with or under, and that I may be one of the strongest people in the place. Makes me glad I have all you guys to look to for motivation.
Right knee was hurting a lot so I wasn’t getting under the snatches. when I start getting down, the weight I’ll be able to handle will go up quite a bit, since I’m power snatching every rep. Presses were awesome - hit the groove just right and the 195 floated up, faster than the 2nd reps at 175. Overhead squat was really solid, I’m going to try more weight for 5 next time I do them.
My knees were stiff and sore for quite some time after taking the OLing seminar. My traps though had the most awesome pump. You are one strong skinny fellah.
Really good lift. Great clean. Your depth on the squat is great. You looked a little wobbly on the split jerk but you held. Is the jerk your limiting factor on C&J Max?

I think so. My clean is doing pretty well for a beginner. I can FS triple 245 so I ought to be able to clean it. No way in hell I could jerk it right now though.

the 225 simply flew up as you were standing it up![/quote]
I’m finally managing to do that slight shoulder shrug at the top which lets you re-adjust your grip. It just builds on the momentum you develop from standing up. Looks bad-ass though when you can do it with bigger weights than what I use.
you obviously had no trouble standing that up. heaps of momentum just from the stand-up lolz.
can you do hang cleans to practice speed under the bar? i used to do them to learn speed under the bar… nasty exercise that feels pretty bloody horrible, though…

I was just analyzing the set of CJ vids to see what I need to work and high-hang cleans is what I self-prescribed. I need to have that bar closer and I need to finish the 2nd pull an get under tha bar fast. If I get that squared away, 245 cleans will be cake. The other thing I need to do is jerks and jerks and jerks and get off that tiny platform. I can and must split longer than what it allows. My 220 CJ had a great jerk and I’d like to get back to that. Long legs means a long split.
ah. i can’t split jerk, unfortunately, so i’m stuck powerjerking them. or sometimes i do a deep squat jerk but it makes my coaches eyes bleed rather since i simply get crushed in the hole with little more than the bar
If I put 40-45 more pounds on my total, Glenn Pendlay might sponsor me…Says so on his website: “I will sponsor DaCharmingAlbino if he can lift 80% of the world record for snatch, CJ and total for his weight (and age?) class. Cross my heart and hope to die.”
Age 50-54 85kg 2011 records for SN = 112kg CJ = 137kg
.8 x 112 = 89kg
.8 x 137kg = 109kg
My lifts are 80kg SN and 102kg CJ.
Hmmmmmmmm.
Unlikely that I should ever be sponsored, but it gives me some medium-term target numbers to shoot for.
