Any advice for a guy who isn’t all that gifted in doing Oly lifts but still wants to clean properly?
I dunno - I don’t recall seeing you clean something. You may be doing it perfectly already as far as I know :).
I’ll see if I can’t get a video of me doing it wrong.
Looking forward to it. Are you looking for yet another means of obtaining PRs?
Well you know what a PR whore I am.
Since I’ve gone to pulling Sumo I don’t have any think in my lifting that is even close to explosive and it just seems like thats a programing flaw I should fix.

I don’t know about that - why would you need it in your program if the lifts you care about are improving, as they seem to be? Cleans seem to be suited for developing athleticism for jumping sports, but for powerlifting banded stuff or performing the competition lifts with lighter weights more quickly seems to work better. Cleans haven’t really improved my deadlift at all. Only deadlifting seems to do that for me. I can jump like a 50-year-old mf’ing kangaroo now, though.
Just read about the Joe Mills 20/20 program, which pounds you with volume. Kinda like a sheiko or smolov for Oly lifting. I think I need that 75%-85% 1RM work to drill the lifts, my snatch is getting sloppy (from being a PR whore, yes, I know) and I need to do CJ’s a lot more with lighter weight to get the footwork down.
The program has you doing about 20 each of SN and CJ per session which sounds perfect for me since I’m getting tired just doing 5 lifts. Assistance work is out of the picture for the time being.
My best miss, because I missed while UNDER the bar.

SN
barxsome
75,95,115x3 (from hips)
132.5,142.5,152.5 1x5 sets
157.5,162.5,167.5x1
172.5xmiss,miss
CJ
165,175,185 1x5 sets
190,195,200,205,210x1
Whew! Very tiring. Snatches went better. I loaded too heavily last time so I went with 75% of max to start (like you’re supposed to) and worked up.
CJ - the clean recovery just got harder and harder right to the last set as fatigue built up. I was thinking I would do some Body building type work tomorrow, but I dunno.
Looking fatigued in the video, but you were definately ramped for the lift.
I really like Oly lifting and even imagine doing it, I have a gym with all the gear, just too much of a puss to try it cause I know its gunna hurt.
What he said. You look really tired but you should be after doing all of that work.
What’s really surprising is how quickly the form broke down: 167.5lbs was a good lift, good form and solid catch, but just 5lbs more caused the clusterf**k you saw above.
Soooooo…I’m going to change the Joe Mills (Sadistic Bastard) program a bit and reduce the jumps after the 15 reps to 2.5 lbs. Going up 25 lbs seems too much for me right now, with technique deteriorating significantly by the third jump. getting stronger hasn’t improved my SN and CJ so much - this stuff seems to be technique driven. If I use manageable weights and move up more incrementally while maintaining technique, I think it’ll be better in the long run.
And if I suddenly have a major breakthrough firm-up of technique, I’ll simply go back to 5lb jumps. If I last. It’s kind of boring. You have to get all 20 lifts in good form before moving up. Probably good for me.
That some good volume.
If you are into anatomy this is a good 3D site, but you’ll need firefox or chrome. I don’t think IE supports it. www.zygotebody.com/
It’s a google company.
Took me a while to figure out how to turn off some of the layers to just see muscle and bone.

I’m that way on all the big lifts and I’d imagine that the Oly lifts are worse.
