T-Nation should start a series of episodes sending different T-Nation members to train at Planet Fitness.
Imagine seeing Shane54 or DW train a day at that club.
yes yes, i know… but we would still dominate, i mean cmon… they classified that one guy as a “body builder”. It would be NEAR impossible to train well there… I mean just yesterday… i was alternating decline DB bench and hammer curls(muscle rev). I’m using 80’s for DBs and there is no way in hell i could lower those to the floor since A) my arms don’t reach that far since the bench is really elevated B) they are too damn heavy for me to slowly let down after exhausting myself.
No way in hell I could workout there… I wonder if you would be asked to slow down on the treadmill if you were running hard on it and making a lot of noise…
and yes, part of me realllllllly wants to do an overhead push press with 225 and drop that shit in the middle of the gym, then walk out as the lark alarm sets off.
Myself and Petedacook were planning on doing this at the Planet Fitness around here. We still have to schedule it out. As soon as I get the time, this is getting done.

Where is the DC Planet Fit? I was seriously thinking about pulling some sort of prank, but I didn’t know we had one.
I was thinking of asking to see it, then asking if I could do one workout to see if I like it, then screaming bloody hell while I deadlift and drop the weight.
I hate training in a quiet gym. How come it’s never a serious trainee who needs quiet to “focus”?
I’m also pretty sure I would have laughed my ass off if I saw that reporter fall off her treadmill turning to look at someone who dropped some weights.
I wonder where they get this “judgment” thing from anyways? Is it really such an issue? I’ve never seen it happen. But I have seen a lot of experienced weight lifters helping the newbs, with a sincere desire to pass on the knowledge. It makes everyone feel good.
So it seems Planet Fitness caters to a pack of insecure losers, who perceive external judgment because they are internally judging themselves harshly. The “judgment zone” is in their heads. And so Planet Unfitness is like a shelter for psych-cases, a nursery for big babies who don’t want to get any better.
And the perpetrate a negative myth against people like us, scare-mongers out for a buck who don’t care that they are even hurting their client?le as well. Perpetrating fear and derision between two groups. This is America, Inc.

I couldn’t have said this better. I always enjoy giving what knowledge I have to High School guys doing the wrong stuff.
Besides, just recently, a guy was benching about 350, getting all pumped up for it, some chalk on his hands, getting under the bar with some heavy weight moving motivation in his eyes. This pumped me up to try even harder. I fed off of his energy.
So much better to work out around people giving all they got. I wasn’t “intimidated” by his hardcore attitude. I loved it. I’m confident with myself, and I won’t be “intimidated” by something like that. Idiot P.F. people. I just zone out and focus on my workout when people are prancing around w/ their 10lb weights at the gym I use back at home though.
Ha. I was in College Park last night returning some books to the UMD library.
I don’t know my way around VA that well, maybe I can go out there next week while my wife is out of the country and I am bored.
Where do you guys train at? I go to the WSC which I imagine can’t be much better than PF. Though they don’t complain about me grunting or using chalk, which is nice.
There are plenty of gyms you can go to where you can lift till your eyes bleed and scream bloody rape from the first rep to the last. If thats your deal, more power to you. It would do others well to take some inspiration and mimic your intensity.
However, it scares some people away. Yeah, some people are fat, and some are out of shape, and some are old, and some are weak. Some are just self concious and would love to train hard, but feel stupid when someone sees them.
Even if their workout barely gets them to break a sweat, at least they’re doing something. Even if its just getting off the couch, going to the gym, getting changed, and shooting baskets for half an hour, its still time not spent on the couch. There will still be some health benefits to it, even if its just better sleep at night.
Now, if all gyms start getting into this trend, I’ll be pissed, but as long as its not the majority, I support it. Complaining about that gym is like complaining about Curves: Fitness for Women. Of course Curves isnt for bodybuilders or fitness competitors. Neither is Planet Fitness. So, if you’re a bodybuilder/fitness competitor… don’t go there. Go somewhere else.
However, it may be a good place to start for someone who wants to get some more activity in their lives.
And who knows. Maybe after while of going to Planet Fitness, a few of those “non-grunters” will want to kick it up a notch and become a “lunk” themselves.
