You are right Polo. I’m not a fan of Twilight, but I just think it is exaggerated a bit by grown ass men how much they hate it and it’s ruining the whole vampire scene horror thing. Since I’m not a fan…I’m not defending Twilight, I just don’t see why a bunch of grown ass men are dissing a movie for teens so much, it seems silly…At the same time…since I don’t share the same mind-set for the hatred of the movie as much as everyone else…I guess this thread is not for me, and you made a very good point. I just thought I’d give my opinion and that’s it.

It seems silly because it IS silly …
Some people have a respect for what vampires are; they appreiciate what they stand for symbolically and hate that something like this comes along and completely ignores the work and mythology of a treasured literary device (and in turn cinema device). It’s arrogant to assume that you can just change the mythology and characteristics of a timeless literary device that has been used for over a century and possibly longer in European folklore. And that’s what these books/movies do.

That’s understandable…I didn’t look at it from that point of view…again I am from the younger generation so it doesn’t really bug me…but from the way you said it…I can see it bugging the older men, who grew up with the more classic way of things regarding the vampires.
I really just felt in the movie the whole vampire/werewolf thing was watered way down just because it’s meant for a younger audience and well…they aren’t really going to put out vicious vampires and wolves in a movie for their target audience (the young folk). Most vampire movies come across as a horror and well Twilight is far from a horror and in the movie the vampires are not these blood sucking monsters craving human blood and striking fear…it is the opposite actually where they encounter humans and don’t have the intension of sucking the life out of them, they adapt. I guess a more modern era of vampires? lol
