Trump: The Third Year

Key and Peele were pretty much spot on, this is how it looks like

Surrender, capitulate, retreat…

The French, while the Revolution was still raging, managed to hold off all European powers combined and then went on the counteroffensive defeating all European armies sent against them, conquering Netherlands, Belgium and a city called Nizza which is to this day part of France. Two decades later they captured Moscow.

Interestingly, their former allies, who would have remained under British rule had France not provided a large contingent of troops, huge treasury funds and a massive naval presence that proved decisive decided to stab them in the back around the same time

Because they had an Italian general.

Interesting.

Trump’s approval ratings, while still low, are going up.

Could it be that many American’s are looking at what the DEMS have to offer as an “alternative”…and are deciding "WTF…I’ll just to “go with the Devil I know!”

Or is it something else?

Not sure. He was around the same amount as now in late April I believe and then dipped for a bit so it could be a correction. I’m not sure it’s moved enough and been long enough to think it may have a meaning for 2020. Could be the normal fluctuations but who knows.

I think everyone prefers the devil they know typically. It’s why incumbents do so well at all levels. Seems like we have a “well yeah things are bad and that person sucks but what if the other person really fucks it up?! Better be safe and stay with this jackass.” Part of the crazy phenomenon where Congress can have like a 90 percent disapprove rating right before an election and most of those people keep their jobs.

Great points. @H_factor.

As it relates to 2020? Nothing-burger.

There is so much that has to happen before we ever consider the general election, that’s it’s almost mind-boggling.

And think about 2016. That election was in doubt almost up until the last week.

I’d like to offer a couple of completely unrelated pieces of commentary

These are official polls from the official GOP.com website run by Trump’s official PAC.

One of my coworkers has a spiteful friend and he signs him up for the texts. Apparently unsubscribing only works on the emails lolol

I think the “free healthcare for illegals” and the “of course there will be a middle class tax increase” of the second debate is a little off putting.

Remember to have no faith in poll numbers though. They only measure the opinions of those dumb enough to answer the phone.

This is amazing. How is this real?

Who would you rather have win?

A. Donald Trump
B. Zombie Hitler who plans to kill your whole family first.

Could you expand on that? I appreciate your knowledge and I’m curious about that subject.

Well, in the Revolutionary War the British showed remarkable restraint, despite having their hands full with the rebels’ allies the French who challenged Britain in Caribbean and India and sent a formidable expeditionary force to North America.

The public opinion in the UK was also somewhat supportive of the rebels - after all, weren’t they fellow white Englishmen resisting the whims of a supposedly tyrannical king in the best tradition of Long Parliament that defied Charles I?

That’s why in the aftermath of American Independence there was much soul searching in the UK, mainly how did we manage to alienate our kinsmen type thing prompting a completely new policy towards white colonies that manifested itself a century or so later.

Yes, racism played a part because the rebels were were fellow white Englishmen. But the French only a decade and a half after the Revolutionary war killed around 150k civilians during a failed royalist uprising in the Vendee region of France.

I know it’s hard to believe, but throughout history the French were formidable and ruthless fighters who carved out a massive empire through straight up military conquest against warlike peoples who could fight (Arabs and Berbers of North Africa, the Vietnamese…), unlike the British who frequently relied on fighting through proxies and intervening in internal struggles.

It took France 100 years (!) to subdue Algeria at the cost of half a million dead, with the body count being much, much higher on the Arab side. Same thing in Madagascar,Central Africa, Indochina…

In the aftermath of WW2 a traumatized, bankrupt France fought tooth and nail for both Indochina and Algeria (800k and 500k dead locals respectively). Meanwhile, white Rhodesia seceded from Britain after a cordial phone call (again, racism but practically other colonies were let go by Britain, despite some low intensity anti-communist wars led by Britain in Malaya and elsewhere)

The Portuguese were even worse, basically a never ending horror story of massacres, slave trading and more massacres.

The Germans were latecomers to the game but managed one full fledged genocide in Namibia, with General Lothar von Trotha exterminating around 100k Herero tribesmen as a revenge for killing a hundred German settlers.

But the worst were Belgians. In Europe, the mild mannered beer brewing, chocolate making Belgians were the but of many jokes and a speed bump in European history, but in Congo, holy shit.

The Belgian Force Publique killed at least 3 million people, mostly hacking them to death with machetes as usage of bullets was discouraged due to their cost.

So the conclusion is the following - if you were to live under the colonial yoke, the British Empire was the least worst option.

I get it. You don’t like Democrats. I doubt many are as bad as Zombie Hitler planning to kill your whole family, though.

Wow, that’s fascinating stuff, thank you for taking the time to answer, I really apprecciate it.

Tell me about it, I couldn’t believe it when I read Tintin au Congo.

Worse than the spanyards in the Americas? Really? I remember reading about Vasco da Gama firing his cannons into some African villages after being chased off but nothing really that bad.

The surprising part to me is how he’s still not citing pols supporting him at more than like 55%

Can you imagine? “Hmmmmm… Trump or MS-13 loving Democrat… Decisions…”

I love the parts before the Democrat option.

Lying, low energy, high tax, sleazy, radical socialist, corrupt Democrat.

Although the idea of Trump calling someone else sleazy, lying, or corrupt is nuts.

Thanks for those. It’s an insight into madness.
