Trump: The Third Year

Damn straight.

Them Deep State Libs known as, er, the Secretary of the Navy and the admiral over the Navy SEALs are standing up to Trump:

Trump loves to overrule the military brass. What is the general consensus in the military about this? Or is pretty split?

I don’t know about the feelings of the military about Trump or Trump’s specific actions here, but Presidents have a very long track record of disagreement with military brass.

We might have fought the Soviets in 1945 if Patton’s advice had been followed, and nuclear weapons might have been used in Korea if not for pesky executive disagreement with McArthur.

Thank goodness the generals don’t get to call all the shots.

It would depend on rank, education, age, place of birth, etc. No different than the non military world.

In fairness he believes he knows more than them. He’s probably just tired of having to correct them all the time.

“I know more about ISIS than the generals do.”

“I know more about drones than anybody. I know about every form of safety that you can have.”

“Having a drone fly overhead — and I think nobody knows much more about technology, this type of technology certainly, than I do."

I’m sure he does. Take a look at his kids.

Good for Trump!

He was restrained and limited the focus of his rhetoric when he visited the troops in Afghanistan today!

There are miracles!

Another day another temper tantrum for Trump. I can definitely see opposing Dems but I can’t understand how people support Trump at this point.

My four year old daughter is able to handle adversity much better.

“Attorney General William Barr on Monday rejected a key conclusion of an investigation conducted by his OWN agency’s watchdog that a probe into Russian interference into the 2016 election was justified”.

From all that was said with his original confirmation; Barr used to be a “straight-shooter” who told the truth and followed the facts.

Now it just seems llike he has been sucked into Trump’s vortex.

When I listen to him now he sounds and looks like a man who is just trying to get through all of this crap intact so he can collect his full government benefits.

You do know that they lied 12 times on the FISA warrant application for Carter Page right? And made 5 more mistakes? It was so bad that the OIG began an audit of the entire FISA application process.

Secret courts make for bad oversight and opportunities for abuse. Who would have predicted that?

Maybe this can be the beginning of the end for the patriot act and secret courts.

Lot of guilty pleas for an unjustified investigation.

I wouldn’t count on it.

Exactly. When has Trump ever complained about having too much power?

Fruit of the poisoned tree much? They got Logan act violations for sure, but no collusion with foreign powers or treason.

Me either. The secret police using secret courts and sealed indictments against political rivals is not a bug, it’s a feature. J. Edgar Hoover would be proud.

Obviously you felt the exact same way about the illegally obtained DNC emails right

(Fwiw, I’m happy both sides got exposed for their shit)

Could be worse. Coulda been asking a foreign country to do it.

According to Horowitz speaking to the Senate yesterday: The FISA warrant renewals were based “entirely” on the Steele dossier. Which was uncorroborated rumors collected by a British former MI6 agent from paid Russian sources. So… we’re back to:

Burn it all down.

Executive Summary Review of Four FISA Applications and Other Aspects of the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane Investigation inaccurate or incomplete information, or considerations other than the merits of the investigation. If the explanations we were given for a particular decision were consistent with legal requirements, policies, procedures, and not unreasonable, we did not conclude that the decision was based on improper considerations in the absence of documentary or testimonial evidence to the contrary. The Opening of Crossfire Hurricane and Four Related Investigations, and Early Investigative Steps The Opening of Crossfire Hurricane and Four Individual Cases As we describe in Chapter Three, the FBI opened Crossfire Hurricane on July 31, 2016, just days after its receipt of information from a Friendly Foreign Government (FFG) reporting that, in May 2016, during a meeting with the FFG, then Trump campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos “suggested the Trump team had received some kind of suggestion from Russia that it could assist this process with the anonymous re lease of information during the campaign that would be damaging to Mrs. Clinton (and President Obama).” The FBI Electronic Communication (EC) opening the Crossfire Hurricane investigation stated t hat, based o n the FFG information, “this investigation is being opened to determine whether individual(s) associated with the Trump campaign are witting of and/or coordinating activities with the Government of Russia.” We did not find information in FBI or Department ECs, emails, or other documents, or through witness testimony, indicating that any information other than the FFG information was relied upon to predicate the opening of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Alt hough not mentioned in the EC, at t he time, FBI officials involved in opening the investigation had reason to believe t hat Russia may have been connected to the Wikileaks d isclosures that occurred earl ier in July 2016, and were aware of information regarding Russia’s efforts to interfere with the 2016 U.S. elections. These officials, though, did not become aware of Steele’s election reporting until weeks later and we therefore determined that Steele’s reports played no role in the Crossfire Hurricane opening.

So what horowitz is saying is that if the FBI’s rationale that they told him seemed legitimate, he didn’t dig any deeper. Determining intent was not the point of the IG report.

This was a review of the FISA applications and whether they followed the rules, they didn’t. Horowitz had no subpoena authority and could only speak to current FBI agents.

There is a separate criminal investigation that does have subpoena power.

From Horowitz’ testimony yesterday:

“For example, the ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ team obtained information from Steele’s primary sub-source in January 2017 that raised significant questions about the reliability of the Steele reporting. This was particularly noteworthy because the FISA applications relied entirely on information from the Steele — from the primary sub-sources reporting to support the allegation that Page was coordinating with the Russian government on 2016 U.S. presidential election activities,” he explained. “However, the FBI did not share this information with department lawyers and it was therefore omitted from the last two renewal applications.”

Trump, an old man with a history of creepy predatory actions towards young women, tweeting something to his 60 million followers about a teenage girl with Asperger’s:

“So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!”

Not super happy this is the guy representing my country on the world stage. Tweeting a sarcastic insult to a teenage girl. Just another day in Trump’s presidency.
