Trump: The Third Year

Could. Or we could Presidents accountable for abusing their power in regards to elections. I’m not sure why that seems to bother you so much other than just another “it’s all so bad anyways who cares what happens” take.

That’ll teach the next one to be more careful about what he says in public. Say that shit backstage like every other President.

Constitution: No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

Elsewhere: 52 U.S. Code § 30121 - Contributions and donations by foreign nationals | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute

I just don’t see either applying to what I gather Trump is accused of doing.

It’s not not fair.

Apparently it bothers you enough that you want someone who disagrees with your sophomoric opinion to leave.

Maybe the next one won’t ask a foreign country for help in getting re-elected.

“Hello, Donald, it’s your second best friend Kim. Just FYI I’m gonna launch a missile with a nuclear payload over Japan. Oh, and here are some documents proving Warren beat up an elderly disabled veteran when she was in college. This Japan thing is nothing, the missile is going to explode in the air and it’s gonna be just a teensy bit of fallout. Great talking to you buddy.”

The concept that you can influence US foreign policy by providing/forging damaging information on the sitting POTUS’ political opponents won’t be lost on anyone.

One, you have a constitutional infraction - subverting the Spending Clause by unlawfully using monies Congress has already decided to spend and on what terms.

Two, happy reading:

Let’s say a President says “No” to that. What can be done?

Of all the infractions that have occurred and could, I am least worried about one that would save money.

I don’t see political dirt as being a “thing of value.”

No thanks, this conversation is headed nowhere. If you bothered to read you’d see that the statute covers services requested and that kind of stuff has been long recognized as part of the campaign finance law. As for the violations of the spending clause in the Constitution, well if you don’t care about the Constitution there’s not much to talk about.

I saw that. I don’t see it fitting. We’re talking about free and open elections-dirt exposure is to the benefit of all Americans. Even if we see it as Trump requesting a service, I still don’t see this as applying to foreign countries and aid. This is about threatening someone’s job in exchange for funding(or work). This is threatening to withhold someone’s pension in exchange for funding(or work).

The impeachment process sounds like the way to pursue everything. Let 'er rip!

How do we know the dirt is true? It’s information coming from a biased source. I don’t know about Nick but I don’t trust politicians in such a sheeply way.

All dirt is good dirt if it furthers the socialism esque ideology of anarchy and govt elimination.

Living in the real world is for losers anyways.

That’s why I spend so much time on this forum. I don’t want to be a loser.

We don’t. We’d have to question it the same way most everything is(should be) questioned. The more evidence(in support of a, b, c, etc.) that’s brought to light, the better.

And the fact it comes from a politician means we should be assured it’s all true.

No, it isn’t limited to that. Read the damn statute. It applies whenever someone withholds a government payment in exchange for a thing of value that would benefit their campaign.

No one cares about the alternative looneytarian reality you dreamed up. In the real world, that’s how the rule reads.

Misquoted botched post.

My apologies if this has been covered in this thread or elsewhere: what are the limits Trump supporters have defined for his conduct? In other words, assuming that support for Trump is in fact conditional, could one of these supporters of Trump and the current version of the Republican party on this forum make an honest effort to outline for me where these boundaries lie?

While the question cannot help but appear somewhat troll-ish, it is a genuine request for information, even edification.
