Youāre trying to pin extremism of the GOP on Ryan and not the freedom caucus? I get that leadership always gets blamed, but that doesnāt mean you ignore the problems among the team members.
Specific to Obamacare issue that @H_factor and @Basement_Gainz were talking about, the freedom caucus were the ones who opposed the more recent bill because it was too similar to Obamacare, with no reasonable alternative other than opposing just to oppose. At least Ryan was trying to push a solution. That means heās a traitor? Uh huh.

You could absolutely make the argument that the GOP leadership should not have caved to the freedom caucus and try to work across the isle more, which I believe H and BG were doing. Thatās different than calling them idiots and traitors.
Part of the reason we have people like the freedom caucus is the GOP purity tests and the rino type talk.
Again, I believe the āidiots and traitorsā line was about them spending 8 years refusing to work with Dems and openly saying their only mission was to make Obama a 1 term President, when their only mission should have been passing meaningful legislation.
Ok, maybe go after McConnell then, as he said it and Ryan was elected speaker in Oct 2015. My point is that his statement was void of facts and full of hyperbole.
I agree. @anon50325502 and I discussed a while back about how it excludes people who would otherwise be good candidates (we were talking about presidential candidates such as Condoleezza Rice). I think if we want better elected officials we need to target the primary process, which unfortunately caters to the base right now and anybody who is moderate or even seems somewhat moderate is thrown out. For example, Kasich was labelled as āliberalā in the primaries, where Cruz was celebrated for being principled, ignoring the fact that all of Cruzās senate colleagues stated how he would never work with them on getting legislation done because he wouldnāt compromise on anything.

Agreed. Heās made himself famous. Whether he is really a business savant is quite debatable; back in campaign season, several articles pointed out that Trump would be worth more today if he had taken his entire fortune in 1982 (or 1987, or just about whatever year you like from the 80ās) and stuck it into the S&P 500.
His shrewdest stratagem has been making a lot of money by licensing his name to projects instead of actually owning the projects. If you build a new golf course or luxury resort, you assume risk that it fails; heās found a way to get some cash without assuming that risk by merely licensing his name for a fee.
Itās a weird debate. In no way does success in business make you a good President. Completely different job.
Also being a mediocre success in certain areas doesnāt mean you wonāt be a good politician.
Merkel pretty much called him untrustworthy and insane and he lost an alpha dick swinging contest to the worldās blandest ex banker with a penchant for really old women.
Macron is regularly shitting on Trump in public appearances - so much for uniformly positive comments.
Also, I find it ironic that Alpha Trump cancelled his trip to the UK because they couldnāt guarantee him that there wouldnāt be any public protests.
The poor snowflake couldnāt get a safe space.
