You will be shocked to learn that, in my opinion, credit for that goes to the 2010 gerrymandering by the (wait for it) Republican party.
At any rate, I don’t see how you can expect to make much hay out of the fact that Dems from conservative districts elected to buck the POTUS. In point of fact, they very likely did it with the blessing and permission of the West Wing, which would much rather keep a Dem seat in a conservative district than exchange that seat for a vote on a piece of legislation that’s going to pass without it.
Now that’s revisionism.
I won’t bore you by quoting, yet again, the evidence indicating the GOP’s marching orders precluded cooperation with the budget process.

I agree 100% with what TB has written wrt Obama and his politics. And it all begins and ends with the fact that he 1000% (yes, the extra 900% is intentional) KNOWS that he is the smartest person in the room, building, city, state, etc, etc, because he was elected due to being the new Messiah.
Just to note, I agree with ED that Goldman Sachs execs are all swamp rats; I’ll offer up the “defense” that maybe they have to be to survive there. And don’t get me started on Henry Paulson, the man GWB made King…

The Senate, which has moved from a Democratic supermajority to a Republican majority

The national election of a Republican that was the worst candidate if the modern era and who only won by flipping Democratic voters in key swing states

The vast gains by Republicans in flipping state legislatures, and in particular, governships
All of this occurred in Obama’s watch, and none can be blamed on gerrymandering.
Well, you’re now making my argument for me. If you’re right about this, you’re conceding Obama wanted a more partisan, left-oriented budget but told moderate Democrats “hey, I know this bill is too far left for your constituents, so you have my blessing to vote against it for politics’ sake to save your seat.”
Yes, precisely my point. Obama was not committed to a “meet in the middle” approach - he submitted a budget he wanted and was willing to take the risk of losing moderates.
By definition, a bill submitted by a party that runs the risk of losing that party’s own moderates is not a bill that the other party is being included in.
