The quote provided–the words attributed to Obama that had “” around them–was literally inaccurate.
Congratulations (seriously). Thank God for people like you and your buddy (again, said sincerely). But in that regard, please see my comment above.

Truly semantics, by not extending a tax cut you allow taxes to go up. Hence, I paid more.
As you may, or may not know, an S corporation (what I own) is taxed as regular income. So, my taxes were indeed raised an additional 4.6%…again. I would have changed to a “C” corporation but that would have been even worse.
As for Obamacare not being a tax the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court disagrees with you. And even Obama himself said this: "“We did raise taxes on some things.”
At any rate you originally said you had a difficult time finding these tax hikes and I hope that this helped you in some way.
Merry Christmas.
ZEB
I will let my original words stand. There are plenty of ways to phrase things if you want to include the government as your “helper”. Obama failed in this. Furthermore, I have never seen, read or heard of any other President saying anything close to this when it came to referring to entrepreneurs. In fact, Ronald Reagan did just the opposite calling entrepreneurs the driving force of the economy (and he was correct). But then he was for free enterprise and lower taxes…the exact opposite of Obama.
So, it’s not just what Obama said and how he said it, it’s what he didn’t say. But then again he is Obama and I suppose I should have expected such language from him. It’s called insult after injury.
So the quote that you provided, which my snippet was taken from, and you state that he did say, in context- was literally inaccurate.
True. The statement doesn’t diminish actual accomplishments, I’m just having some fun.
Knock back a shot of Bushmills for me! That was one of my old favorites. I’m knee deep in an excited four year old playing with all of the Thomas the Tank Engine toys that Santa brought him. ![]()
Merry Christmas, friend. Slainte.
You’re right, that was my bad–I misread yours as the (mis)quote attributed previously. Was hurrying out the door to the in-laws for dinner.
Yes, you paid more–because the tax cut expired as it was intended to. But the planned sunsetting of a tax cut is not the same thing as a tax hike. Now, if you want to complain that Obama’s tax cuts (ie, his extension of most aspects of the Bush tax cuts) didn’t include you, that’s fair. But not getting a tax cut hardly qualifies as getting a tax increase.
I am not familiar enough with corporate tax structures to argue the finer points of it with you. All I will do is point out that you are conflating your (zeb1’s) tax burden with that of your company’s tax burden. While these may feel the same to you, they are not.
Indeed. And many people disagree with him. Like I said, it’s a semantics issue.
As for taxes associated with Obamacare: The link you provide only roils the water by, for example, calling reductions in tax credits a tax increase. (Of course, given that the source is ATR, I would not expect a fair-and-balanced treatment of any tax-related subject.) The fact of the matter is, the main Obamacare tax increase that is borne by individuals is an increase in Medicare-related taxes on high (>~200K) earners.
I was paying 4.6% less under GW Bush. Call it what you want. And as I said Obama wanted to go higher but lost both houses of Congress in the mid-term election and couldn’t. So, Zeb paid more under Obama than he did under Bush and would have paid even more if it were not for the republican rescue. But I have already said this.
Yes, fair enough you are not familiar with it so you do not understand that I am not conflating the two. Under the tax code an S corporations revenues are taxed as if they are my direct revenues as a person. And, I paid a higher rate under Obama. As I said I would have changed to a C corp but that would have even been worse under Obama. But I already said this.
I respectfully disagree as to it being a semantics issue. Yes, many people disagree with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, but what is that supposed to mean? It is his ruling. Some disagree with the abortion ruling…so what? Obamacare is a tax hike plain and simple. And as I said Obama even admitted it as well. But I already said all of that.
We have reached the point in Internet debates where it pays to go no further. I think you said you are center left (you may correct me if I am wrong or just blow by it doesn’t matter). I am a conservative on most issues. We will never agree or settle anything related to Obama, or tax policy. I have found that it is fun to exchange, or debate, various ideas. But there comes a point where repetition becomes the standard and we have arrived my friend.
It was nice chatting with you. I appreciate your civility and your intelligence on the issues and look forward to more exchanges in the future.
Merry Christmas to you and your family,
ZEB
Likewise. My best to you and yours.
Here’s the documentary that was discussed above.
I’m half way through it and it’s depressing as hell.
Obama says goodbye to Israel

“The Obama administration has long flirted with international efforts to delegitimize Israel, so what happened today isn’t really surprising,”
There is a profound difference between acknowledging the illegitimacy of Israel’s settlement activities in the OT–activities that are in flagrant violation of international law and the Geneva Convention–and ‘delegitimizing Israel.’ Israel has stuck its thumb in our eye for decades regarding the settlements issue, so it is hardly surprising that an exasperated US would finally engage in a symbolic, nonbinding display of disapproval.
Further, Obama recently signed the most generous military-aid agreement in the history of the US-Israel relationship. So if he considers Israel ‘illegitimate,’ he has a funny way of showing it.
That may be true but how could I resist putting together that photo with the story. It’s really a grand post is it not?
(Also, the US should not have abstained from the vote)
The photo would have been much more impressive back in the day. These kids today, with their rock 'n roll music and their Photoshops, can create any picture that suits their fancy.
The US has been abstaining from that vote for years (decades?), and the result has been an acceleration of the settlement process.
At any rate, the vote provides the Republicans and our Second President a perfect opportunity to puff out their chests and grandstand. They should be thanking Obama, not condemning him.
Yeah, but I’m old and to me that was cool. Then again my favorite music comes from bands such as Chicago, The Eagles and Journey. My son just rolls his eyes…I DON’T CARE MUSIC WAS BETTER THAN…ah I feel better now…

True. Also, there seems to be quite a lot of reversals of executive orders that will be coming down the pike by Trump in his first few weeks as POTUS
You and I must be about the same age. I would wear a Make America(n Music) Great Again hat on behalf of those bands.
I knew you were a smart guy.
This is Journey with another iconic band from back in the day The Doobie Brothers

This thread has become way too civil. I need more fighting. Where is @Mufasa? ![]()
