Trump: The First 100 Days

What is the constitutional role of government?

To provide a strong military, institute federal courts, have a legitimate currency and a few other things. But not one word about entitlement programs. Such programs have harmed our society. Are people better today because we take money from people who worked hard for it and have given it to people who did not work for it and do not deserve it? I don’t think so…

Let’s provide for this who are elderly and disabled. The rest have 6 months to find work and then they are shut off.

Simple.

The government can raise my taxes for a strong military but not one penny to pay an able bodied man or woman to stay home.

I’m in no way trying to start the “which do we cut first debate,” so I’m sorry for bringing up entitlements at all. My question is more in regards to the vast amount of overspending we do in regards to military. I read a pretty well put together article a month or so ago (that ofc I can’t find atm), but I’ll post a shorter different version below that covers a couple similar things I noticed.

I’m more asking about the amount of spending we do to keep OTHER countries safe (makes me think of the ole Trump matra of "rest of UN doesn’t foot their share of the bill). I recognize that some of what we do has a large impact to our own national security, but clearly not all.

Edit: I understand a lot of the things in this article are congressmen pandering to their state in an effort to create jobs. What I consistently DON’T see, is fiscal conservatives up in arms about it en masse.

That’s pretty much my stance as well. The hypocrisy is real, but then again…politicians…

If you are saying that we do not spend every penny wisely when it comes to the military I wholeheartedly agree with you.

That’s not the only part that’s annoying (to me). Not only did be deride Obama for playing golf, Trump said that he (Trump) would likely never play golf, because he’d be too busy working in the WH. Below is but one of many, many examples of him saying this:

Root Question: Why do fiscal conservatives (on the whole) hate wasteful/frivolous spending then actively ignore the amount we spend on Defense. Logically, you’d think anyone that hates wasteful spending would be first in line to start “fixing” our defense spending, but that’s almost never the case.

IRL I don’t spend a ton of time around fiscal conservatives so I don’t have a great way to get an answer to that question.

Well, I have already given you above what the founding fathers had in mind for the federal government (entitlements were never mentioned). Defense is the most important criteria. And no good citizen should complain about the “amount” that we spend (at least thus far). The complaint should be, as you have mentioned, waste and fraud.

Does it also bother you that Obama called the Bush national debt “unpatriotic” and then during his two terms more than doubled it?

One more time for those who have not been paying attention. Politicians are liars, thieves and whores. They will say what they have to say at any point in the game in order to advance their cause. And that goes for both parties.

One more thing, at your age you really should know this.

The US spends lots on Defence mainly because it wants to maintain the “don’t fck with us all we’ll fck you right up” status that it has had since the start of the Cold war where the budget tripled and hasn’t gone down to the original level.
I do agree that if the US put some of the Defence budget into other areas, like NASA or education, great things could be achieved. However I doubt this will happen anytime soon unfortunately.

But, the primary job of the federal government is the national defense. It is the states job to improve their educational system.

Feel free to remove any and all private information I have posted previously on this site - thanks

I guess, to rephrase, why do we rarely hear “fiscal conservatives” complain about Defense “waste?”

Side question. Do you think people would take “fiscal conservatives” more seriously if they were pushing to eliminate waste in all aspects of govt instead of mostly flat out ignoring defense?

Sorry to start laughing, but wouldn’t he have to just wipe your account totally?

Look up the conservative positions from 50 years back and more - (neocon) GOP isn’t fiscal conservative by any measure.

I understand this, which is why I said this won’t happen anytime soon.

I’m not going to go sort through 9 and a half years worth of posts and decide what to edit. If there are specific posts you’d like to remove, you can choose to edit them.

Well you came across a bunch of stuff pretty fast, how about removing the stuff you have mentioned you found? That’s all I mean. I don’t expect you to go through my whole posting history

Considering the emergency state of affairs that demanded the fiscal policy Obama pursued–not at all.

Ehhhhhhhh let’s not pretend the Obama line about our debt wasn’t a crowdpleaser. I didn’t expect Obama to lower the debt, but let’s not pretend like ALL of the increases were forced by the shitshow that was Obama’s Congress.

I was referring to the existential threat posed by the financial meltdown of 2008.
