Trump: The First 100 Days

Which means “at least we’re wasting money in the right places to waste it?” How is that good exactly?

Why not just streamline the system? Isn’t that whole point of electing a man who has no idea how to run a govt outside of running it like a business? Is there a world where a businessman would see a shitty process and go “lets just throw money at it to make it less cost efficient!”

That is a herculean undertaking for an entire government, not just a POTUS administration.

I mean, I am right there with you but yhe sheer scope and size of inquiry or audit along with the oversight…

No it’s not good, but see post above for my thoughts on streamlining. Also, I will say that any streamlining will take more than a budget–you need oversight, audits, etc. A budget proposal is the first step, so it is conceivable that some streamlining could be forthcoming.

Sure it is. It’s being presented as fact, it’s not.

It’s been presented as a CERTAINTY we are headed toward wide scale catastrophe

No, if he ran on a campaign promise to cut government size and scope (which presumably means spending as well), then he should not erase almost his entire proposed spending cut by adding that to the military budget.

I would be fine with not cutting the budget, but Trumps proposed “skinny” budget as shown in the image cuts about $59 B. He adds 52 of that back to military.

His total spending cut in this “skinny budget” is a paltry, what, 0.5 B?

That’s not skinny. If we are even remotely going to tackle budget responsibility then his net cut should stay above 50 B.

You didn’t say “the media REPORTING of climate change is fake news”. You said “climate change IS fake news”.

Climate change is not fake news. Climate change IS happening. Relative attribution, quantification, and assessment are ongoing serious and real areas of research.

I just assumed people knew what I was talking about, in the context of this forum.

If we were on science forum and I said that, I would understand your complaint.

Okay…let me finish it for you. Power corrupts absolute power corrupts absolutely! If you really think that Obama had all of the traditional checks and balances that most Presidents have had…I really want to sell you that piece of property in Florida

You have a habit of making very wide ranging, black-and-white statements, and then trying to walk them back later.

It would be easier just to state your actual point clearly in the first place instead of making random generalizations.

But you forget my friend that he also ran on a campaign promise to strengthen the military.

There would be better ways to do that. Cut waste, etc. At the very least he could have simply added 5-10 B and kept the bulk of the cuts so as to actually and materially pare down our spending.

0.5 billion is not even a blip on the radar. That’s what, about 3 hours of federal spending out of the year?

Evolve past religion? Like the post-modernist utopias of the 20th century where God was dead and everybody else was getting murdered by the millions? The anti-religious of the 20th century murdered more people than all the religious wars put together, through out history. You need humans to evolve past being human, not past religion.
You don’t have to like religion but nature abhors a vacuum. Where religion is purged another comes and fills its gaps. Western Europe was held high in it’s plight to get rid of Christianity. So now, Islam has taken over.

If a mob is heading in your direction, would you rather they have just come from a mosque, or a bible study?

As much of a sabre-rattler as I am, a blind increase in US military funding isn’t necessarily a good.

Mind you, the overall flavour of the budget seems sound. Not gonna rate it as A+, but it warrants a thumbs up.

At least it didn’t have an income tax increase proposal like that of the UK’s recent “conservative” budget.

And that’s 100% understandable. The fix to that would be to start with departments that provide the most savings for your buck to streamline. I can’t help but feel like Military spending would be near, if not at the top, of that list.

Imo, an increase in a currently over inflated budget has no way of streamlining.

I don’t know how many F-35’s are in the budget. But investing in troops, light weapons and light armor is definitely needed. It’s not like we are in peace time.

This is the break down of the proposed military spending:

The Department of Homeland Security would see a hike in funding of 6.8 percent, as would the Department of Veterans Affairs (5.9 percent) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (11.3 percent).

Don’t get me wrong, Pat. I am not disputing the validity of a military investment, and the DVA increase is a great thing.

Well, here in Europe we understand McCain’s frustration over Rand Paul.

After Rand Paul’s walkout I’m pretty sure there were sounds of champagne bottles popping in the Kremlin.

Montenegro is hugely important in strategical terms, as it’s the last piece of unclaimed real estate in the Mediterranean.

NATO (US) control of Montenegro prevents Russia from deploying their Baltic Sea Fleet in the Mediterranean which became glaringly obvious in the Syria campaign, as their Black Sea Fleet is constrained by the potential closing of the Bosporus strait by Turkey.

Tzarist Russia tried for over 100 years to gain control of Montenegro and one of the reasons for their entry into WW1 was gaining control of Montenegro with one of the finest natural harbors in the world.

Last year Russia tried unsuccessfully to topple the Montenegrin pro-Western government and kill their president by means of a Russia-financed coup led by Russian GRU operatives to prevent it from joining NATO - the coup’s failure infuriated Putin and as a consequence there was a substantial purge in the ranks of the FSB and the GRU.

Just to illustrate it’s importance the Montenegrin president said they were offered by the Russians seven billion dollars cash as a first installment just for fleet basing rights, with more to follow if the NATO bid is withdrawn.
