Trump: The First 100 Days

I think this ignores the huge effect that whether or not something is illegal has on people’s mentalities. We’ve seen this in the states that have legalized rec marijuana. A very considerable % of the potulation (huehue) in these states had 0 intention of smoking purely because it was illegal. Now do that with heroine. The thought is pretty chilling.

Plus we’ve seen it for years with the tobacco industry targeting young people. The ability to sell an addictive product with 0 benefits that literally kills you is just scary. I mean think about it. Cigs provide 0 gain beyond satiating withdrawl, literally fucking kill you, and are expensive as fuck, yet it’s a billion on billion dollar industry.

It’s really easy to find an “expert” from an ultra liberal school to say what Trump is doing will not work

Agreed. However, the War on Drugs has been an abysmal failure because…

As long as there is demand, there will be supply. I don’t care how many walls are built. First off, I would legalize marijuana. This has undoubtedly cut into the cartels business. Then I think we need to take a hard look at decriminalization much like Portugal did. It’s not a “cure” by any means, but things have, at least, moved in a better direction.

I understand your concerns about putting people through rehab multiple times without success. I just wonder what would happen if we took a lot of the money spent on the WoD to find new ways to treat addiction. Going after the supply is not making a dent because people have enjoyed getting high for thousands of years.

Of course, an even more extreme version is to legalize it all and control it. That will never fly, I’m sure. But it would pretty much kneecap the cartels…at least as far as drugs are concerned (I wouldn’t expect them all to run out and get 9 - 5 jobs).

We’ve seen this movie before, Raj. Your new idol isn’t going to put a dent in the drug supply. He’s just going to be throwing users in jail and disrupting thriving, state-legalized industries. Sessions has already said he will enforce federal law and if people don’t want him to do that with marijuana, then Congress should change the law. (I don’t necessarily disagree, but I don’t think Congress has the grapes to do it; therefore the AG will be going after mj.)

Why not have the 11 million illegals pay for the wall or say triple the size of the border patrol,ICE ect.

20,000.00 gets an illegal citizenship. Those that cannot or are unwilling to pay get a free ride home and 5000.00 to start their life over once deported. Once accepted a five year hold on future immigration application.

In addition to the citizenship fee,

  1. Pay all taxes, fines within a reasonable time frame. Five years?
  2. No felonies.
  3. Per adult, no charge for kids.
  4. Must prove that they have been living in the US for say 5 years.
  5. Must prove income.
  6. Must be off any government assistance in 5 years.

Of course the citizenship fee will have to apply to all future immigrants, and any future immigration will have to be legal and payed for in advance.

If a quarter of the illegals already here pay we have a big chunk of the money we need to enforce our borders, future immigrants would help offset the future costs.

Spit balling here. Please take it easy on me, I’m just a landscaper.

I find the thought of moving addictive drug power from the cartels to corporate america absolutely terrifying.

Yeah, me too. So, I know this suggestion never goes over well on these boards, but what if the government ran it…the harder drugs, I mean. (I’ll be awaiting the lashings that are sure to come).

They already sell opiates to people who have no business taking opiates.

I just don’t see it working. At least cigarettes and booze don’t take over your life and cause nearly instant death like heroine or meth.

The Macchiavelli in me says let them have it. Imagine how many millions would OD and die if Heroine were legal. Overpopulation, unemployment, entitlement spending… solved. It’s like a self selecting “purge”.

But obviously no

A big reason for the recent heroin epidemic is due to the over-prescription of opioids by doctors. Drug abuse isn’t reserved for just illegal drugs. (Not arguing with you about anything, just pointing this out).

Agreed. One of many reasons I despise the pharma industry. It enables the worst of the worst to succeed with minimal blowback.

Just like he wouldn’t get elected or wouldn’t pick conservative judges or wouldn’t withdraw from TPP.

I’m sure we have all heard this story before. Do you ever think perhaps you wait and see what happens before calling everything a failure?

You actually think Donald Trump, the real estate mogul from NYC, has a plan to stop the flow of illegal drugs when essentially every other country in the world has failed? Like I said, we’ve already seen this movie, and we know how it ends.

God…

If the republicans had any foresight or brains at all they would legalize weed like yesterday. Trump could sign it, tweet some stupid shit like he always does, and boom, it’s completely off the table done and done.

States use that question to get young voters out to the polls, and those kids vote D overwhelmingly.

Plus, it’d be worth it all just to see the partisan hack lefties suddenly talk about how it’s a dangerous gateway drug, lmao.

That would be excellent. All the sudden the hyperbolic left. “Trump legalized pot to hurt minorities! This move is RACIST”

Actually, the left would cheer this, I think. Of course you’d have a few hyper-partisans that would find issue with it, but this would make a lot of people start rethinking Trump.

Things like this are the reason I’m not as scared of Trump as most people. He has essentially zero concept of the bigger picture of the Republican party (mostly because he doesn’t care).

The damage this man could do if he gave half a shit about keeping the Republicans employed is mind blowing.

You are a lot more optimistic than I am… Maybe you’re right.

This deserves a long detailed post, but chances are he’s already dirtied the shit out of the brand.

“stop” no but improve upon the current situation notably?

Sure.

FYI the next time you read an article and it describes Trump’s policies as scary or dangerous that’s your tell you’re reading bullshit

Ha! No doubt. Most people are in the “sick and tired of politics” camp right now. Dedicated political forums like this are safer. If people didn’t want to talk politics, they wouldn’t be here. You’re less likely to spam people who just want to put up their kid’s soccer pictures or talk about their vacation.
