Trump: The First 100 Days

Didn’t you say you cared about acting honorable and would honor the bet?

Thanks for showing everyone your true colors

We all begged him back.

Lets drop this. It’s better with you BOTH here.

SOS takes a steady hand and measured demeanor. The slightest miscommunications can move the needle a lot. Romney would excel at it.

If he gets selected, he’d do great, but I’d be surprised if he lasted a full four years.

Edit: full, not dull - would be anything but dull.

a dull four years??

That job will probably be wild!

Back off therajraj. After Trump won I asked two of the people that I bet with to stay on. So, I not only called it off I asked USMC to stay. And I’m glad he did.

It’s not that he’s staying that irks me, it’s his comments following.

After the bet was done I said to him (I’m paraphrasing) “you’re an idiot for making that bet but it wouldn’t bother me if you stay”

then he responded with how that was biggest difference between me and him. He cares about acting honourable and I don’t.

Honestly, if he didn’t make such a firm statement and throw a comment my way in the process I would not have brought this up at all

Would SOS be the end for Romney or would he try to stay involved going forward? I don’t think he would run again… but who knows.

Romney as SOS would help me feel more comfortable with a Trump presidency. On two fronts: one… I like Romney, thought he would’ve been a great president and think he would represent the US well. Two… Impressed Trump is reaching out to people who are not die hard supports, people like Nicki Haley, Paul Ryan and Romney. To be successful he has to be willing to do that and a big positive in my mind.

You know what my friend, we all make mistakes you have made some and I have made more than most. Let’s all rise above what may have been said or done and just enjoy the debate that we have with each other daily. I think over the years while we may have battled with each other I hope that there is at least a little respect earned as well.

With that said let’s move forward–right?

That is a good question. Romney doesn’t seem to age like normal human beings. He looks about the same now as he did 8 years ago. So…who knows he might try another Presidential run in four years should Trump turn out to be a failure.

I think you are spot on with your comments.

ok…

I do care, but several people asked me to stay after the above exchange and Zeb and I have moved on.

Trump just said the jobs not moving is now well over 1100…

In all fairness the man is a total BS’er and the most masterful troll the world has ever seen…

grains of salt and all that.

Let’s not forget that this is in Indiana as well. Pence is still the governor after all.

Trump saving the 1000 jobs, or as therajraj just said 1100, is a good thing on its own. But more importantly it sets a tone where other companies might feel an obligation to stay as well. Any smart salesperson knows that you start out with the easy sale to build momentum. Perhaps the next company that is persuaded to stay might mean 10,000 jobs and so forth.

I think the real message is there’s a new sheriff in town and he doesn’t operate like the old one…or perhaps like anyone before him. I see that as positive because we have all been pounding the keyboard about the many things we didn’t like about Bush and Obama.

So it take about 2,800 people making that and paying those state and local taxes to break even on the 7m. (1617+858=2475, 7m/2475=2,828.282828282828).

That’s 290 people a year for the 10 years to get to break even.

I know it doesn’t work 1 to 1 like this, but aside from the other factors involved, not a horrid deal for the state.

Edit, if we ignore local tax, it’s 4,329 people making and paying in on 50k, over 10 years, so 440 people a year.

No, it isn’t a good deal - the company got more back than it gave up, and other companies will see this as a nice playbook to get what they want from a Trump administration as well: threaten to take your operations overseas and lose American jobs, and then say you won’t if you get a bunch of customized federal and state giveaways.

Trump didn’t save a bunch of jobs so much as capitulated to a special interest.

I think you’d also need to consider the tax benefit from the infrastructure project too, but it appears to be a decent deal for the local community on its face.

At least based on what we know.

Agreed

This does concern me. It reads like crony capitalism to be honest.
