Trump and Roe V. Wade

How do you know cats don’t have a religion that secretly drives their overpopulation problems?!?!

I’ll take this a a compliment. Not sure if it was intended that way, but my sub species (engineer) gets called Vulcan regularly.

Perhaps just a joke, so forgive me if I’m being too serious. No, it encompasses what comes after also. Ordered human societies.

You donkey eared green-blooded vulcan!

Thanks folks, but it’s time to step away. Be good (whatever that means, since we haven’t settled this argument
)!

As usual, be good too! I think we agree mostly on what being good means (just don’t agree how to come up with it). Few disagreements, but pretty close for an atheist and a theist.

Evil like morals is subjective and ever changing. It varies by person to person and always has. It varies by people who believe in a higher power and even read the book.

Whose morals are correct and why? Is stealing immoral? What if you’re stealing military secrets in a war? What if kids are starving and you’re in an area with zero other options? Virtually all religious people have zero problems ignoring the word of god that they think is immoral.

It’s all a semantics argument that simply has no real value to discuss.

I don’t think I need sky god to exist for me to have a desire to not kill my parents. If you think I need to that’s cool with me. But it doesn’t change anything about anything. I still won’t believe in God and you will.

Actions matter. You practice a faith that has problems with men of God raping children. Surely you think this is a much bigger real world problem than “well can you have morals without faith?”

Hope the vertigo is better.

Ok, so you agree with my statement you quoted. No act is inherently evil, in of itself. Got to cook, but didn’t want to leave you hanging.

Edit: Mostly improved. Thanks for that, man.

Is murder inherently evil? I have no idea. I wouldn’t kill someone just because. If I was armed and they had a gun to my daughters head my answer might change. I wouldn’t kill someone for breaking into my house. Some people would and feel like they have every right to. In some states they do.

I think they are changing over time. They are subject to circumstance. The very subject of the thread is a perfect example. Is abortion wrong if it saves a mother’s life? It is to some people and it isn’t to others.

The idea that someone has the one defined correct answer to all these doesn’t make sense to me. And if God has the correct answer to all of them he’s awful at presenting his material in a way that his students understand.

At best faith is giving people a higher power to believe in and they determine what he wants them to do based on how they interpret a book or on how others said they think the book should be interpreted.

Glad to hear that. I told you about my dad. I only had a little spell once in my life and it was awful. I can’t imagine dealing with it often.

Define faith.

It’s a method to avoid discovering what is true or false.

Some pretty unique studies exist about monkeys and items like empathy. Scientists viewed these as precursors to the development of morality.*

*Scientists did not control for the religion of the monkeys. I heard it was two Jews, a Hindu, and a Mormon.

The point is simply that you can call yourself whatever you want, unless you actually believe and worship Satan, then you’re not really a Satanist.

Yes they do it for shock value.

Yup.

Brings attention to their group. Pretty smart actually. It’s kinda like when people made up that AC/DC stood for all sorts of satanic things. They got their name from a sewing machine but that didn’t stop believers. It wasn’t true but the attention was good for them. Religious groups burned their albums but it made the news and brought more interest to them.

It also works in their favor because when you promote something for one religion it’s easy to see how any other religion can say “why not us?” Their actual beliefs are irrelevant to their goals.

Satan isn’t real.

You’ve never seen him so prove he’s not real!

Oh I wholeheartedly agree. But Christians were the ones to coin the phrase/label when levying it against those they disagreed with. They essentially created an interpretation of “satanism” that wasn’t reliant on worshiping Satan

It’s more of a “how the world is used in a literal sense” kinda things.

There is a way to find out. The consequences of getting caught are severe but find someone you don’t care about one way or another… Then you will know.
