regarding the brain dead, what if a drug was developed that could regenerate a fully functional human brain? What if cells from the brain dead person were used to create an embryonic clone?
regarding “reaching way early” my point would be that there may be a point where the living cells start to deserve human rights and also that “life begins at conception” has legal issues because I am a scientist and I don’t know what the scientific meaning of “the moment of conception” is. Is it fertilization when two cells become one even if 80% of fertilized cells are invalid or do not implant naturally? Is it implantation? Is it cell division? And is that the point that it deserves human rights, or some other point.
Perhaps it should have the obvious form of a human and be distinguishable from an animal fetus to an average human. If you could save a child or a refrigerator full of fertilized zygotes from a fire, which do you save? You do not know that any of the zygotes would actually produce viable humans even though probably several would.
As I’ve mentioned before, any abortion for health reasons after about 20 weeks could have the same result achieved by delivering the baby, with a 10-90% chance of the baby living so the idea of absolute right to one’s body trumping the needs of another person fails. IMO at 20 weeks it is a human being. I personally just don’t know how far back to push it from there.
All good. I can get out of line and go on rants for sure. I hope you get feeling better. Vertigo is awful.
Not sure if you get vertigo a lot but if you do you might get checked out for meniere’s. My dad battled that for about ten years and then got some surgery on his ear and has been all good since
Appreciate the suggestion. Lately I’ve thought about bringing it back up to my Dr. Still, I guess he and the Gastro are confident that the near daily vertigo is a result of my portal hypertension. So I already deal with low grade (tolerable for the most part) vertigo episodes. But then I got an infection in my left ear a few days ago and it all went to heck. Absolutely miserable, heh. Antivert didn’t seem to help that much. Been on amoxicillin for roughly 36 hours now, in fact. Not great today, but I’m noticing a difference for the better this morning. More steady and ear doesn’t feel so full of concrete.
Nor have I and nor do I have any desire to do so. I find it odd this is being brought up at all. I thought we were discussing science and ethics regarding abortion.
You have vertigo and they only gave you amoxicillin? That’s cruel. amoxicillin works, but slowly, it takes a few days.
I forgot what I got when I had vertigo but it was knocked out in 24 hours after starting antibiotics. I know for a fact vertigo is miserable, feel better man.
Well, you have got me there. I don’t know shit about abortion in the former Eastern Block. I do know that the influence of Mother Russia trying to eradicate religious belief in the east did work to good effect. So I don’t know where the 70% and the 85% slide in to that equation.
But if the Eastern Block restricted abortion is was to keep up a dwindling population.
The satanic Temple is known to draw the ‘support’ of the non religious when they’re pushing back on what is perceived to be the govt passing a religious focused law.
Probably not Earth shattering. But bare minimum they’ll probably have to strike the disposal aspects of the law. I just think it’s funny when religion butts heads with other religions
Hey, let them be seen as the folks offended by a smidgen of solemnity for what are inarguably individual innocent human lives. Kill them with premeditation and then throw them out like the contents of a cyst. No surprise there, Satanic temple. And they may not actually believe in Satan, but I’m sure he believes in them and their efforts.
Same team. Call themselves Satanists. Can’t be bothered to see aborted humans even cremated (toss em out like a removed lipoma). Just biological garbage. All hail more casual sex.
