Development and functioning of the brain in the already existing life cycle of a human in the womb is the natural course of events. It is expected. It isn’t surprising or shocking. That individual life is already alive and already endowed with its own blueprint for its own brain.
Let me ask you a question. What if all activity in the brain ceased for months in a particular condition, but as a matter of routine began again and the ‘person’ suddenly reemerged? What if it pretty much became a universally experienced condition? Everyone at one time or another would go through this at least once. Would you think it ok to deliberately kill anyone while their brain was on hiatus?
No. But a 32 undifferentiated cell blastula has never had so much as a brain cell.
When is the “moment of conception”? out of curiosity. If I remember correctly, 4 out of 5 fertilized embryos are invalid or don’t implant even though they might start dividing.
see my addition. Anyway, government shouldn’t give rights to a potential human. If potential humans had rights then we would literally be killing 100,000 humans a day because we got up on the wrong side of the bed because every human that is conceived is a one in a billion “shot”. ie the butterfly effect.
I believe that killing a fetus, even a 32 cell embryo is morally wrong, but I tend to believe that it does not deserve civil rights. And by the way, if I recall correctly, Alabama allows embryos fertilized in vitro to be disposed of and not illegal.
Queston 1: when does an embryo deserve civil/human rights?
Question 2: if an embryo does not have human rights at a certain stage, while it may be immoral to kill it, does the government have a right to make killing it a crime?
Abortion is a deliberate and premeditated act (killing of an individual human life) within our control.
You do acknowledge that whatever criteria you choose, it is the same individual human life, correct? It doesn’t become a new life when it passes your milestone. It is the same life. A human life already endowed with all the information to develop its brain. Unlike the brain dead.
By the way, you are reaching way early into pregnancy. First brain cell, then?
And preventing the situations that lead to abortion are within our control as well. The benefits are numerous and go far beyond just decreasing those numbers.
We’re letting a really old book that doesn’t mention anything we’re talking about keep us from helping people.
I don’t write policy in states. I’m not pushing us to not educate kids about sex. I’m not pushing us to call people who have premarital sex used or gay people they are insignificant. I’m not telling them they may spend life in eternal torture for the pill or a Trojan.
Feel free to push the religious to use some type of common sense on this issue. You haven’t even attempted to say what I’m arguing is not correct.
Exactly which part of what I’m saying doesn’t relate to abortion? We can take away the gay people are horrible. You aren’t going to deny decreasing unwanted pregnancies decreases abortion.
You want to discuss something other than what I’m saying because you don’t have a counter to it minus “some dude said I should feel this way according to a book written forever ago.”
Ok eliminate gays (no that’s not an idea for the religious to try.)
Contraception and the Bible are huge things to discuss when talking about abortion. Contraception reduces chances of abortion and the Bible is the book which pushes people away from sexual education and contraceptive use.
Discussing abortion without discussing these factors doesn’t make sense.
A counter to what? I already said I have no desire to take away your condoms. That’s your own conciense and life. I have said this repeatedly.
Its abortions that I challenge the legality of as another human life is already present. Omg, dude. You found out I’m religious and default to that now on any issue we disagree. Well, there’s no objective wrong way to conduct ourselves for base our values on. So, so what? And, something gays
I have not once recited scripture as part of my argument. I have relied purely on an argument based on the fact that a human life is already present. If you’re going to simply harass over my religiosity, I will simply ignore you. Which is a shame.
Cmon man I’ve known you were religious for forever. Gays were brought up because we were discussing Alabama’s generally horrific policies on sexual education. It isn’t about taking condoms away no one is accusing you of that. It’s about shying away from teaching kids the benefits of safe sex. The type that has proven to be successful over abstinence only education.
It’s about not making people feel like they are going to burn for eternity because they swallow a pill or put a condom on. It’s PWI. But if you just want to discuss abortion solely and not the myriad of factors that go into that discussion I’ll let you have at it. But the things I have brought up are extremely important to an overall discussion of the subject.
Have a good one man. I wasn’t trying to harass you so I apologize if thats what was felt. Not my intention.
