There’s a strong argument to be made that my childhood experience was significantly enriched by steroids. Many of our cartoon characters were even juicing. The Thundercats all had impressive gym lifts, I’m sure.
For but one example, The Ultimate Warrior could get all oiled up, enter a state of frenzy somehow, and take a 12 year-old Catholic boy like me on a journey through his failed psychic battle with Hulk Hogan’s pilot to win control of his body and use it to crash Hulk Hogan’s plane.
All thanks to sensible training methodology, hard work, and steroids.
Has this become an important part of our shared cultural legacy that is now our obligation to pass on responsibly?
The answer is yes, it has. That’s always been part of what I liked about this particular forum.

Although, if the DingDong campaign had followed that hierarchy and started with the base of physiological needs rather than jumping to the top with the self-actualization mumbo jumbo LOL.
I would say so. Especially coming in from the agrarian areas for the factory jobs. Time revolved around the sun, egg availability and taking nature as it came. I’m sure there schedules to keep and plans to make but nothing like the post Industrial Revolution.
The only reason you can be self aware is because of the gift of western culture. The very concept of feeling fulfilled is from western culture. You like Ford? Ok, but you know damn well you wouldn’t want to work on an assembly line. Why is that? Why is leading a meaningful life important to you? You think people woke up one day and decided their lives should have meaning? Why is the pursuit of happiness in the Declaration of Independence? More importantly, why was it stated that all men had this right? Where did the Founders learn this? You don’t have to care about western culture but you do benefit from it. Without it, you probably would have been a peasant or slave.
When you used the word “feral”, I was thinking of the dictionary meaning:
“applies to people, their acts, or their words and suggests a lack of intelligence, feeling, or humanity”
Probably because of the modern day political zeitgeist.
That humans were feral prior to the Industrial Revolution? They managed to build the Pyramids.

Ok. So speaking about this idea of people being feral, the civilization your ancestors built well over 2,000 years ago was more advanced than parts of Africa today. You had paper and the printing press before Europe as well as astronomy, gunpowder, rockets, the compass and advanced agricultural technology. And that’s only a partial list. I think people forget just how much urbanization there was in the ancient world and into the Middle Ages.
People build culture, not the other way around. We don’t live in a vacuum. What you’re describing by placing people as the product of culture is indoctrination, ironically.
