I guess she wouldn’t like the idea of a planned, monumental city like DC either.
What a buzz kill.

I still haven’t read any Ayn Rand, but I recently read a really good book by an objectivist buddy of hers about how so many Germans were ready to go along with Nazi ideas in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The Cause of Hitler’s Germany by Leonard Peikoff.
I don’t know a whole lot about John Bolton except that he’s a neocon warhawk, but this clip Mike Benz posted sure is interesting to me.
The multiple coup d’etat Bolton is bragging about being smart enough to pull off is what was done to us, by us, with our own tax dollars and many charges on the intergenerational credit card. A coup that’s played out since at least 2016, possibly much earlier.
That’s how we ended up with mainstream news media speaking in unison with Hollywood, the music industry, much of academia, online influencers, and Democrats to introduce new ideas in rapid succession (historically-speaking). Transgenderism, open borders, DEI, Defund The Police, major changes to public education, and the unprecedented smear campaign against President Trump were all elements of this coup, building on the foundation of socialist thought that was already present in the Democratic Party when Trump first took office.
It was all professionally organized by people who had done it in other countries before using the same methods, adapted to the people and place they were trying to destabilize. Other new ideas include mailing ballots by the millions to people who never requested them, the idea that showing ID to vote is “suppression”, allowing anyone to register to vote via affidavit, and operating the city council and school board as secretively as possible, all while pushing to have your opponents censored however you can.
I don’t think I need to put on a tinfoil hat to say that in 2025. We all lived through it, and the evidence is all around us in the public record. Most of this was disguised as an evolution in Democratic Party thought, and there is a degree of truth to that, but the whole movement was heavily funded by tax dollars to push the Democratic Socialist ideology at every opportunity conceivable.
Maybe I’m wrong and Trump is really Hitler like everyone I just described says, but if so, he’s wasted 5 out of 8 years being pretty unlike Hitler, or any other recent ruler best describe as a “dictator”. One thing about dictators, they tend to always show up with any form of socialism, and not with too many other forms of government. Theocracy, I suppose. Whatever monarchies may still exist, too. But mostly socialist countries, which all go to shit fast.
If I’m reading the tea leaves even somewhat correctly, it should be an eventful Presidency.
I think that would woefully fall short in funding realm by multiple magnitudes. Social Security will cost about $1.61T in 2025 vs. $1.43T in income. That is a shortfall of $180 billion.
This number is going to increase in the next 5-10 years too as a larger percentage of our population will be retirement age than ever before in our history. A forced 10% equity handover at listing is an implicit tax on going public. Firms would delay IPOs, list abroad, stay private, or use direct listings/SPACs to dodge it further cutting the revenue you’re counting on. On top of that you would be running afoul of the 5th amendment with a compulsory equity transfer. It would essentially just have to be turned into another tax item to pass constitutional muster.
SS isn’t just a retirement fund. It also provides disability and survivors’ insurance and a progressive, inflation-indexed lifetime annuity. While you “build the fund,” you still must pay current retirees meaning decades of higher taxes, benefit cuts, or borrowing on top of seeding the fund.
You might be able to start a sovereign wealth fund as a way to supplement and relieve social security, but then you are just starting a second program the government can fuck up and rob.
At the end of the day, government runs everything into a corrupt cesspool of flaming dogshit with no repercussion and the poors / bleeding hearts screaming for them to take more from the producers and responsible to feed into the vile machine of everlasting fuckery.
THIS THIS THIS - holy fuck this.
But this will never happen because it exists on mainly the backs of the responsible and successful that plan anyways.
No, it’s not. “I should do something” would be nice.
It’s nice when one of my neighbors gets my mail for us when we’re out of town; but it would be shitty if that neighbor and I convinced a third neighbor to join our alliance for the purpose of neighborhood security, then we decided to hold a vote on who should get my mail in when I’m gone and forced the third neighbor to do it.
I think you’d find it interesting. To provide a starting equivalent, Anthem is like The Hobbit, Atlas Shrugged is like LoTR.
We the Living is The Children of Hurin.
That’s a better way of framing it.
@EmilyQ how much of your paycheck are you willing to part with to benefit those who did not plan for retirement as well as you have (presumably)?
“He was a gentleman in all respects.”

Also, Bill Clinton never went to the Island.
Of course not! The lady is a criminal, not and idiot.
And apparently doesn’t want to become a corpse. ![]()
Compare and contrast:
It’s better to have the racists out in the open?
She’s celebrating diversity. So it’s OK for her to be racist, cuz she knows what she’s doing.
It seems like a lot of “first Black…elected to statewide office” are Republicans across the country.
I wonder why some are against a crime crackdown.
Do you NOT want to be safe and enjoy urban life with friends/family as it was intended?
All of those buildings, streets, etc. were built for a reason…..
It’s bizarre hearing about so called political “leaders” against a crime crackdown….WHY??
White liberals hate minorities and don’t care if they are primarily the victims of inner city crime.
I agree it is a net positive, although it’s temporary. I don’t know what the endgame is. Crime will go down but what happens when the national guard is gone? Elected DAs choose not to charge criminals properly, I don’t really know how you fix that. I know NYPD cops who say they’ve arrested the same guy to start and end a shift because they get released so quickly.
I don’t love the visuals of military patrolling streets of US cities, I will say. I’d rather see far more police funding and proper DAs put in place who allow the police to do their jobs.
That’s a really good question. I don’t think there’s any one single answer, but there are several overlapping reasons.
The narrative that Trump is a fascist dictator-in waiting is the main talking point of Democrats everywhere right now, so cleaning up DC automatically gets shoehorned into that narrative, just like everything else Trump does.
Crime serves an important political purpose for Democrats by entrenching their power in any given jurisdiction. People with the means and motivation often pack up and leave, and they don’t tend to vote for more radical Democrat policy. This also frees up housing for a migrant dependent family or some other state dependent who can be ushered into the vacancy and become a reliable voter for more.
Plain old corruption. Drug dealers are often dumb, but their bosses aren’t and know how to get money in policy maker’s hands without raising alarm bells.
Most Democratic strongholds have vast networks of nonprofits/NGO’s who benefit from crime. Every troubled person is a potential revenue stream for multiple nonprofits, from homeless shelters to addiction treatment to “decarceration” nonprofits that want to put felons in rap videos with high school kids.
The narrative of fascism also intersects with other well-established Democrat ideas like Defund The Police, Defund ICE, Black Lives Matter and related decarceration movements, the idea that Republicans are racists who use police to hunt down black people, etc.
Simply stated, the dangerous, hellscape conditions in urban centers aren’t a policy whoopsie, they are a policy goal.
It really is. I think a certain group is hell bent on normalizing all sorts of sick and criminal behavior to create a money loop that goes from tax coffers to community groups, and back to them through various means & methods.
Keep the dope flowing, bullets flying, and what ever else, as long as there’s money to keep flowing- it doesn’t matter who gets hurt.
