Like last time, he has two years until midterms. Want to see the Red Wave change? Cancel the Student Loan Forgiveness for millions of people already incorporating it into their budgets. Think that will change some young voters minds? Like I said, he needs to do things but not go crazy. Get rid of some of the forgiveness, but get rid of Dept of Ed and the SAVE program? That would change some minds, quickly. There needs to be Temperence.
In addition, it remains to be seen who will control the House, still 18 seats out there. If they get all, he will have it for 2 years, no question. They have a 2 chair lead like this time, think about how much power Johnson had. There are realities that are more complex than an election speech.

It did seem like Trump had some interest in some kind of mechanism to keep people who’ve been productive and positive contributors, but it will be messy no matter what.

That’s why it backfires. Everything they put forward rests on really shaky premises and astonishing mental gymnastics, and that’s being generous. Flooding the nation with as many troubled and needy people as possible makes perfect sense if you believe that the existing power structures are evil instruments of racist oppression that must be destroyed.
It is a very cultish belief and it actually drives major national policies.

I don’t know about that. The Right seems to just want to retain its property rights, while the Left wants to take them. I may be forgetting an issue, but I can’t think of any where the two sides are reversed.
