It looks like the Democrats’ nightmare will never end. Ukraine peace deal looks like it is moving ahead. I’m not sure how the Mayor of Lewiston will cope.
Maine news keeps getting wilder. 100M in federal funding is being withheld from U of Maine over Title IX violations. New legislation is being proposed to limit general assistance to Mainers, but not illegal migrants. Budget season is upon us. Let the socialist lunacy commence.
Multiple gunmen shot a 19 year-old man outside of a Lewiston mosque about a mile away from my home on Friday night, during Ramadan. After a weekend of ridiculous people (mostly white women) shrieking about this being a white supremacist attack on Muslims inspired by Trump, the Lewiston Police Department issued a statement today.
This is more or less how most shootings tend to play out, which happen roughly once to twice per week in our once very peaceful town, which was also a peaceful home for thousands of Somalian Muslims. In 2025, violence gets unleashed, nobody knows who did it, nobody gets arrested.
Thankfully, and I’m not being sarcastic here at all, mystery Lewiston gunmen are almost all lousy shots, as most of the shooting victims tend to survive in Lewiston. Not all, though. We have good reason to believe most of these shootings are being done by members of the Muslim immigrant population who under the age of 18. Minors are afforded an awful lot of protections in Maine.
I’m paging my friend @squating_bear on this post. Knowing what you know about me, about Lewiston, and about Muslims, can you offer me any insight as to why this keeps happening in my town? Tensions are running high here, and that’s not good.
I now see that he does. Looks like he’s doing the podcast thing, which will not make him or the Democrats look any better, not without a major ideological overhaul of the party. Their fundamental problem in podcasting is no different than what we’ve seen play out on these long-form discussion forums.
None of their ideas or narratives can hold up to even basic scrutiny, and tend to fall apart with a few basic questions. They require careful curated media narratives sold by actors, which Newsome is, but there is no amount of brainpower that can be mustered to defend them to normal American taxpayers in a free-flowing discussion.
I don’t have much of an opinion on Bannon or know much about his relationship with Trump. If he sounded pissed, maybe he was. He’s always seem opinionated to me, but never stupid or malicious.
Newsome isn’t stupid at all, but he’s definitely a malicious grifter, and has more looks than acting talent.
@punnyguy As I suspected, Golden is reading the room. He knows damn well he’s only in office due to non-citizen migrants who are not allowed to vote in Maine elections, but do because our voting system is designed to be unable to detect it. It was also a ranked choice runoff, which always seem to favor Dems. He knows damn well that Voter ID is on the ballot in November, likely to pass, eliminating Maine Democrats’ only remaining advantage.
Continuing to be a congressman seems to be more important to him than any ideological stand, which isn’t necessarily a good thing, but it’s better than a DSA cult member. I’ve always been grateful that he isn’t a woke embarrassment to Lewiston.
I also suspect he’s a reader of mine, as many politician’s staffers are members of our little closed group in Lewiston. A lot of the stuff we’re writing about is being picked up elsewhere.
Hell, just today a different Maine Wire article mentioned dialectical materialism.
Like, he’s objectively good at playing the game, but its like they greased the dude up before every single game - NO ONE would ever really hit him, and it irritated the fuck out of me.
This is how I view Newsom. Too slimy for anything to stick to.
Not really. The only squadron I observed were the Patriots, led by an athlete whose deadlift appeared to be lacking.
I’m not sure if you have ever encountered a person whose identity was wrapped up in allegiance to the Patriots organization, but they are even worse than I am when I go on and on about dialectical materialism.
He probably shot the guy himself.
I bet it’s some old rivalry that goes way back, like a 1000 years or so, when the Hassan clan ripped @squating_bear ancestors off and sold them cheap paper instead of fancy papyrus.
They’ve been at it ever since.
‘‘THE AL-ABHARĪS SEND THEIR AS-SALAMU ALAYKUMS, MOTHERFUCKER!!!’’
I don’t think that is true. All of my interactions with @squating_bear have been positive, with a shared understanding that we don’t share the same understanding of the world around us.
My battle is ideological, and my only enemy in Maine is the ideology of Democratic Socialism. I hope the battle doesn’t become theological, but theologists in my community are the ones who will determine that. Legislation is currently being introduced to recognize Islamic holidays in state government, which I do not agree with. I do agree with local school boards deciding for themselves if it makes sense to take Islamic holidays off. Perhaps this is the end of it, or perhaps it is just the beginning of it, but I don’t want any belief system taking control of the government at any level.
I value my friend’s opinion, if he is willing to share it. If not, I also value his wisdom for not taking up the unsupervised white kid’s idea to play with fireworks and spray paint.
I can’t offer much insight. Doing that at a masjid during Ramadan is like the pinnacle of incongruency.
As you mentioned, it was a peaceful home for thousands of Somali Muslims, but not anymore. As with many immigrant Muslims, the children are developing values that are very different from their parents. In this case it’s towards crime. I don’t know that much to say with confidence why that would be.
In my experience the children of immigrants are usually well educated and much better off economically than their parents. The parents would be upset that they’re not getting married fast enough. Big difference from shooting or getting shot.
My family were Afghan immigrants and most Afghan immigrants from that time have done well socio-economically. All of my mom’s Afghan friends have children that graduated college, etc. But that’s also maybe a reflection of who they were. The ones that escaped Afghanistan at that time were upper class, had a vision and resources to do so. Even though they came to America with nothing they had an idea of who they are and how things should be so they raised their kids like that.
I’m guessing poor Somali immigrants averaged differently partly from perspective or lack thereof. If parents assume things will go well because the schools and the system here go well - it’s not like that. I think it’s not like that for any demographic anymore.
Afghan, Pakistani, Indian, Bengali immigrants have a very competitive perspective toward schooling. I think Arabs too. I think the school systems there are less forgiving and the old story the American school system taught me when I was growing up about “either do good in school or become a trashman/McDonalds cashier” etc. is actually true in a lot of the world.
I wouldn’t expect Somali refugees to have a similar perspective. So without having a dire sense of direction, it makes sense that various cultural pulls (Bling, Booty, etc.) would give a different result, combined with a difference in sheer numbers.
Pakistani, Indian, Bengali immigrants are not usually refugees. My mom’s generation of Afghans were - but there weren’t that many, we didn’t grow up in the same neighborhoods, and they had upper class perspectives. If you’ve got large neighborhoods that are >30% poor Somali refugees and their parents are happy for them to live lower/middle class but the young men get something different in mind - it makes sense to me from here without knowing much about them
Looks like it happened in the parking lot while people praying inside wouldn’t have much help to offer.
I could see prayers continuing. It’s not an Islamic requirement, but every Masjid I can remember visiting aims to complete the Quran recitation standing in prayer at night during Ramadan. So a little more than 1/30th of the Quran mixed in with bowing and prostrations - I would expect it to be more than 2 hrs and less than 4. Some people recite way faster than others. I can see why holding that up in order to accomplish nothing wouldn’t have much appeal.
If I was praying and the Imam continued praying, I don’t particularly think that I would stop. I would expect someone involved with masjid management would deal with police. If I expected a language barrier then that might give me reason to insert myself into such a situation. Sometimes I can translate effectively between English and broken English (y’all don’t believe me - do ya?)
Where did you get that he was a frequent attendee? I didn’t notice that part in the article.
People might have felt inclined to cooperate without seeing what cooperation would look like. Feeling inclined to cooperate without knowing how.
How little cooperation was there? The article states a conclusion that “little” cooperation was given. Means there was cooperation. How much cooperation was given? How much should have been? If they had CCTV cameras pointed at the parking lot (or anywhere) then they should have been quick to share that. Maybe they did.
