I also wonder why Ukraine needs to be a perfect democracy that it can be sovereign. You guys make it sound like Putin is somehow sensible and responsible guy.
I can only wonder the mental acrobatics some people have with this situation.
If you want to compare, the Freedom House has some good data.
Ps. And Germany because people have some twisted notions about it too. Seems that Germany gets better scores than US. That’s the hypocrisy.
That’s why I said “kinda”. Russia pretends to be democracy, they even held “elections” in occupied Ukraine.
Of course Putin’s speaks and actions are against the base values of democracy. He has also said he doesn’t appreciate western democracies and sees them weak.
Blob Media hit on “Ukraine corruption” so much before the war because “anti-corruption” probes, NGOs & prosecutors were key to securing political control of Ukraine. When the war hit, the far bigger blockage to control was territorial loss to Russia. So, “no more corruption.”
That picture modifies the truth on purpose, I would even claim it lies.
News about the corruption are still around and are no surprise for anybody who’s followed the country for a while.
I don’t see how this acts for justification for the war, or killing/raping/deporting civilians.
It’s not like we need to choose which one (Ukraine or Russia) is ”good”. Ukraine is a flawed country and Russia is a dictatorship. The invasion has no justification.
Russia has an arsenal that matches the U.S. Not to mention that moron Biden pushed Russia and China into each others arms. China outnumbers the U.S. in population 4 to 1.
For the U.S. to be the catalyst. It is the U.S. that would be committing suicide.
I can’t recall anything like this in Maine except for left wing demonstrations. Lewistons BLM March had maybe 200-300. In the 1920s the Maine Klan got about 200 together in one spot, necessitating DEI coordinators in government 100 years later.
Looks like the left is going to fight back. They are still sticking with the democracy defender fantasy. I’m predicting a couple dozen, now that all the funding for professional organizing has dried up.
The march in Lewiston was DEFINITELY organized by professional activists.
