TRT and Water Retention

I have been on TRT for almost two years. Had a lot of help from the people here when I first started my TRT. I Currently take 140mg of Test Cyp once per week and 250iu’s of HCG twice a week. I don’t take an AI. I have no problem with Gyno and have felt great on TRT especially after adding the HCG. To my problem, In the Last 2 months I have gained a considerable amount of water. 30+ pounds.

I eat a normal healthy diet. I only take a multi vitamin and NO2 product. I have for years. Could this be a result of the TRT? My doctors are taking a more serious approach looking at my heart and such, but the first thing that comes to mind is estrogen. I have no numbers to give you because once I got my TRT dialed in I really haven’t had any lab work done in the last year.

The Doc game me Lasix 40mg and it has done absolutely nothing. I wake up in the morning and look like Rocky after he took a beatin from Drago in Rocky 4, lol. I drink about a gallon of water a day and restrict my sodium. I haven’t increased my diet or calorie intake and it still seems like I am gaining 1-2 pounds per day even if I eat nothing the day before. This is not my first post, I don’t even know how to find it. I would if I could. Thanks for any input. -Nick

Get your estrogen tested.

Restricting sodium can be restricting your iodine intake.

Suggest testing more than E2, do CBC

I new That was the Very First thing someone would say. I will, but is it really possible to cause all of this water retention so fast without Gyno? My sex Drive is fantastic. I have been completely fine for over a year with no sides to note on this protocol. Side note, my blood pressure went from my normal 110/70 to 160-170/ over 100-110 (The last 1-2 month’s)in the same amount of time.

The last time I tried (Aromasin?)It raised my blood pressure to 180/120, I only know because I was trying to donate blood and they wouldn’t let me. That’s why im not on the protocol that includes an AI. Again do you or anyone else think there is a chance this is from my TRT protocol. My last TT was 541 and E was in the 40’s up from tt-80 and E-2

I did have a CBC done, MY Hemoglobin and Hemocrit were .1 above in range. everything else was in range. I wish I had the paper in front of mf me for reference ranges but I don’t that was in March. My doctor said it was completely fine.

Is your urine output matching your fluid intake?

It sounds like you might need to have some of your kidney function markers looked at. Soon would be good.

I do have my labs

CREAT 1.5 range 0.7-1.3 Flagged as High
EGFR 54.6 Ref Range >=60 Flagged as low
TRIG 169 REF 40-150 Flagged as High
LDL 116 REF 0-100 Flagged as High
TSH 1.29
HGB 17.2 REF Range 13-16 Flagged as High
HCT 50.1 Ref Range 36-47.7 Flagged as High

Those are the only flagged results The TSH I just put on there. Is there an specific test KSMAN?

" My doctor said it was completely fine." is sometimes not a good sign. You want a doc that finds the problem that can then be managed.

If Lasix did not work, perhaps you do not have a water retention issue, but something else like fat gain. The failure of Lasix to solve the problem can be viewed as a diagnostic that indicates that the issue is not water retention.

CREAT 1.5 REF .7 - 1.3 H
EGFR 54.6 REF >=60 L
TRIG 169 REF 40 - 150 H
LDL 116 REF 0 - 100 H
TSH 1.29
HGB 17.2 REF 13-16 H
HCT 50.1 REF 36 - 47.7 H
Amorphous Urate Crystals in Urine

I have a bunch more but everything I listed here besides the TSH was flagged

KSMAN I took hydrochlorothiazide 2 weeks ago and lost 30 pounds in 4 days. I had water coming out of every hole. I couldn’t handle the side effects and asked to be switched. I lift 3 times a week and do cardio 4 times a week until recently when they started throwing all of these pills at me that completely drain me.

You make have been suffering from a major change in electrolytes. There are potassium sparing diuretics

You need to find out why you have: Edema - Wikipedia

What dosage were you taking? I started 12.5mg per day and within two days I can already feel the water coming out a lot!

I don’t remember? 12.5x2 I think, don’t hold me to it. I switched to losartan and take bumex for water. I worked out everyday too just with a crushing headache and weak body from the medicine.

Interesting… I’m on the 12.5 but only once daily and I feel a slight difference with this crazy ass moonface damn Trt gave me lol. I used to be lean, I track my macros but Trt came and effed it up lol. Do you think the diuretics helped you?

Diuretics has helped me tremendously, lost 10 pounds of water in 5 days.

Are you still on Trt and the diuretics? And does it interfere with your Trt performance?

I cannot inject T without swelling and more edema. The diuretic did improve upon my symptoms 3 weeks after stopping TRT. If your issue is not water retention, you need to find the cause.

Something change after you started TRT and you will need an experienced doctor who has dealt with it before to diagnose it. Normally TRT causes an initial red flushing in the face that resolves after a time.

I know this is a really old post but I’m having water retention issues also. I want to say first that if your doctor thinks your labs are fine then get another doctor immediately. Your creatinine is high and your egfr is low. These are signs of kidney issues as in kidney disease. You need to get a urinalysis and see if there is any protein in your urine. I’ve been researching kidney issues because of my sodium going way up and co2 going way down due to trt and those are the things they look at for kidney disease. Go to a specialist and get your kidneys checked out.
