TRT and Pre-Diabtetes, Low Carb Crash?

As some of you know, I started TRT about three weeks ago (100mg/wk self injecting 50mg E3.5D). On my original blood work, my blood glucose was reading high so my doc told me to start testing my blood glucose levels every morning upon waking. I’ve been doing that and have yet to get a reading below 106. It ranges from there up to 121. I’ve got the diet on a limited carb regimen now and I time my carbs around workouts. I was hoping that the exogenous Test would increase my insulin sensitivity and I would start seeing my fasting levels trend down by now, but it’s not working out that way.

I am clinically pre diabetic and I don’t want to just ignore it, so I’ve been thinking about cutting carbs altogether to see if that helps more, but I am really worried that if I do that then workouts are going to suffer greatly. I’ve done keto for extended periods before, and after the first week or so I felt way better, but it never fails that after a month or two my strength, energy, and desires just crash.

My question is, do you guys think that the crash that experienced before could have had something to do with low T, or is it just the way it goes when you cut carbs for extended periods? Also, is there a way to control this through diet without making everything else suffer? I’m feeling much better on my 3rd week of TRT and I don’t want to start going backwards!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Low testosterone can contribute to type 2 diabetes, though I understand you are not there yet. Researchers found that low testosterone levels were associated with significantly decreased insulin sensitivity. Men with type 2 diabetes are twice as likely to have low testosterone levels compared to men without.

As for the low carb, keto, Paleo diet, yeah the energy crash can be part of it, but you adapt and most start to feel better once they get trough it. I would say cut carbs, but not anything too drastic, cut processed foods and sugar except for fruit and vegetables. Give the TRT time to see how if effects your glucose levels. It you’re carrying some fat, losing that will help, and you will after six months.
