TRT and mood swings.

Your experience with mood swings and poor sleep somewhat mirror my experience with testosterone. I have untreatable bipolar, with mostly depression. Depression sucks the life out of a person. Been on and off rx T for about 11 years. I’m also caring for my wife who has Alzheimer’s. I’ve been treading water and wanted to see if I could finally break the depression and associated symptoms. Pushed my dose to 100 mg 2X weekly. My doctor agreed that it was worth a try. After 2 1/2 weeks, my mood/libido/erectile function, energy, anxiety, ability to handle stress all dramatically improved…until 5 weeks in and my sleep began to worsen(it’s been poor for 20 years, with the return of bipolar in 2004). Also hypomanic. Tried significantly lower dosing but missed that ‘kick start’. And I didn’t give lower dosing a long enough time. I just wanted the depression gone. For the past two weeks, 200 mg, 1X week. Back to worsened sleep and hypomania.

If I’m going to remain on T, it seems clear(?) that I might have to go under 100 mg per week and hope, over time, my mood and sleep will improve. Forever trying to find the elusive middle ground to ameliorate depression and anhedonia as well as ED. I had it and my body didn’t like it.

My doctor actually put me on a med to help with it but it’s not been long enough to see if it’s helped or not. I appreciate the info.
