TRT and Digestive Issues?

Been on 200mg per week for 4 years with no issues other than high hematocrit which I keep under control.
No problems until a few months ago. Started having digestive issues, 24/7 gas and daily diarrhea. Saw gastro Dr. and after many test he said, “IBS”. Have had this for about 8 months now.

Tried eliminating/changing everything I could to try and pinpoint the problem because Im not all in on the IBS diagnosis.

Changed everything EXCEPT my weekly test injection. Decided to give that a try and did not inject for 1 month. Over that month, I started feeling better. My digestives issues got better as time went on to the point where I was almost back to “normal”.

In order to rule out the injections as a possible cause, I needed to take a injection. Injected on Monday, and have had horrible gas and morning D every day since.
I think I’ve narrowed it down. I cant explain it though. May be my immune system has gone haywire with the TRT???
Anyone else heard of this?

I have had quite a ride on TRT, lots of bumps in the road and learning. I have had iron, vitamin D and calcium deficiency, all together and separately. When my calcium drops low, I get an autoimmune condition, where my immune system attacks the bodies tissues.

My chest is irritated, which causes coughing, also constant sneezing and mucus coming out everywhere. So when my calcium drops, I become suddenly sick.

I started supplementing calcium and within a week, all these symptoms disappeared. The iron deficiency caused IBS, and GERD like symptoms which was ulcers in the esophagus from the lack of oxygen.

These deficiencies were caused by low vitamin D which helps you absorb iron and calcium.

TRT may be contributing to your IBS, but isn’t the cause, you have a deficiency of a vitamin or mineral. TRT can cause you to burn through iron stores faster, more so than when not on the therapy.

The calcium, vitamin D and iron all effect the immune function.

I recommend ferritin, iron saturation, vitamin D lab testing and a basic mineral panel.

Your problem could also be your high TRT dosage, 200 mg per week is a lot. Guys that start out too high may not have problems right away, it may take some time for things to catch up with you.

Where does 200 mg per week put your Total T and Free T levels?

Total runs between 900-1100, and free between 15-25.

I only injected 100mg Monday. Has to be related since I was doing MUCH better gut wise, without. I may just have to stop al together. Daily diarrhea is bad news.

If you had naturally high testosterone, you’d still be having these problems. Being on TRT doesn’t make you immune to nutritional deficiencies. You owe it to yourself to work through the problem.

All it takes is a comprehensive mineral and vitamin blood test.

Old post I know, but for some reason this thread popped up on my “New & Unread Topics”, and I read anything and everything when it comes to digestive issues.

I have constant mucus all the time. I feel it in my sinuses, in my chest, and well… pretty much like you say - “everywhere”. It makes me feel all kinds of weird. It contributes to a foul taste and shortness of breath which can then cause me to overheat. Just feel uncomfortable pretty much all of the time. Despite a ridiculous amount of tests, everything I’ve ever had done comes back clear. No medications work but I do take a daily anti-histamine and occasionally go through periods of taking a PPI because heartburn can sometimes flare quite badly. I’ve tried a million different elimination diets and just can’t figure out what’s causing this. About one or two days a month I might get where symptoms are 80-90% reduced but have no idea why - there seems no pattern whatsoever!

I drink a ton of milk so don’t think calcium is an issue for me, I take vitamin D but not consistantly enough.

Just thinking out loud really. No real reason for this post.

I’d try cutting the milk. Bloody terrible for irritstion and mucus productuon.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I thought I would mention, PPI’s kill the good as well as the bad bacteria in the gut, leading to systematic, inflammation and dementia. Your gut health is linked to your brain health.

Check ferritin if you haven’t already, because vitamin D is responsible for helping you absorb iron as well as calcium.

I’ve gone through periods of no milk or any other dairy for 2-3 months several times. I’ve done all kinds of elimination diets.

Yeah. I avoid them as much as I can because the long-term side effects scare the hell out of me. When I say “occasionally go through periods”, it’s probably a 2 week period up to 3-4 times a year. I’ve suffered with all this stuff for 10 years+, it’s the bane of my existence. Sometimes I’m in so much pain and burning up to my sinuses and throat I just need 10-14 days to let it calm down before I enter my new phase of unproductiveness trying to figure this shit out.

Sesame oil in Testosterone does that to me

Weird but mucus completely disapeared after I switched to grape seed oil
