Can i still be treated for low test if I am having symptoms of BPH?
Yes. But you and your doc need to know that estradiol can cause or make BPH worse. You should use Arimidex/anastrozole to keep near E2=22pg/ml. You can take some natural BPH remedies that can be helpful too.
You have a PSA baseline or any other E2, TT, FT, DHT data?
T-gels make more DHT than other methods. Injections/pellets the leaast. High %T creams and patches are in the middle.
For injections, inject twice a week or EOD to eliminate T and E spikes.
I agree with KSman that estrogen can make BPH worse. I know of quite a few men that used to have BPH symptoms, and started to treat themselves for high estrogen using liquid arimidex and herbs. It took them about a month to relieve their symptoms; they couldn’t believe there was such a painless (and cheap) way to relieve the symptoms.
Started a year ago on trt, androgel had no effect, went to test cyp 100 mg weekly. Didn’t really feel much of a change, bumped to 150mg and was feeling good. PSA before treatment was 0.6, now 1.2. T at start was 242, last bloodwork 540, taken day of injection, before injection. T has gotten as high as 740. Endocrinologist doesn’t test for estradiol or dht. Have had hard and sometimes sore nipples, no bumps. BPH symptoms have become slowly, but steadily worse to the point now, where it can’t be ignored. Am seeing urologist on 12/2, endo advised to stop test until BPH is treated/resolved.
When I saw the endo this week, I asked about AI…she said that “oh, we have bodybuilders coming in here looking for breast cancer drugs, if your estrogen is too high, we’ll just reduce the test dosage.” She also said that high estradiol would not cause bph. I have taken l-dex, but not on a consistant basis, just don’t like the idea of putting something into me that I got from someone else who got it off the net. I asked the endo to check for estradiol and dht on next bloodwork, and the labcorp code for the estradiol they ordered was for women, jeez! When I made the appt with the urologist I asked if he treated low test, he does. I am hoping he is progressive in terms of AI, hcg, etc, but I don’t expect it. I don’t want to have to pay through the nose to an anti-aging clinic for sound treatment. Needless to say I am very discouraged at this point. From what I have been reading here, my story seems all too familiar. If anyone knows of any good docs in the Tampa area, please let me know. Thanks for replies.
Adding…last bloodwork, TT=549 (360-1030), SHBG=20 (20-60), bioavailable T=261 (95-285), bioavailable T %=47.6% )no ref. range. Liver numbers normal.
KSman, thanks for the link, but I still need a physician who will cooperate…
But the compounders know the docs who understand!
just started TRT with pellet implantation, T levels went from 353 to 750 in about 4 weeks…but it seems my mild BPH has gotten worse, doc put me on arimidex 1mg/1 a week…as he said my estradiol was a bit high, any advice on supps and dosages i could try to help reduce the bph?
