TRT 42 Y/O, My Story

Hi all,

I have been a silent reader of this forum for quite some time and startet TRT 4 months ago. Since I learned a lot from the individual stories posted here I thought I am sharing my story as well.

Problems with low T first became a topic when we were trying to start a family at age of 34, it just didnt work out for us for over a year. Consulted a specialist which diagnosed secondary hypogonadism, low T (320 ng/dl) and low sperm count with low motility (5 Mil/ml) - his feedback: there is nothing you can do to improve your situation. I seeked another urologist with the same outcome. Frustrated I started to research on my own (i am a biochemist) and with the help of a friend of mine which is an MD who got me the prescription started self injecting hCG (250 IU 3x per week) and hMG (75 IU 3x per week).

My T level rose to 620 ng/dl, energy and libido improved to a level I could never imagine before and the sperm count/motility improved to 35 Mil/ml and 55% motile sperm. My wife got pregnant within 3 months. I confronted one of the ā€˜experts’ and his feedback was basically ā€˜i dont believe you’…
3 years later we wanted to have another kid and basically i repeated the protocol and it worked again. My T in between these two ā€˜trials’ was hoovering between 250 and 360 ng/dl and compared tothe timeson hCG I felt tired and depressed.

My youngest kid is now 2, i turned 42 and we are sure that we dont want another kid and so I decided to treat myself and go on T. I had lost confidence in the medical community but this time i was lucky enough to find an educated urologist who again run some labs (pre TRT)
total T 244
SHBG 36

Thyroid hormones all centered in ref range

I educated myself about TRT and with the info of this forum and my doc we came up with the protocol of injecting 30 mg T enanthate 3x per week subQ. Initially I experienced some up and downs in energy, anxiety, libido and nipple tenderness but it all eased out after about 6 weeks. I am absolutely amazed by thei mpact TRT has on my life and I really hope it continuous this way. Energy is better than never before, libido is high and erections are hard and interestingly my heart palpitations (about 10000 PACs per day) which I had for quite some time significantly improved. I just had my 4 month blood check

I am super happy with how things are evolving and I wanted to thank all the knowladgeable people on this forum sharing their insights. Their is certainly more knowleadge with regard to TRT in this forum than in many MD offices.

all the best from Germany

Wow! That is the height of arrogance. They think,ā€œI don’t know of anything to help you, and since I know everything, there is nothing to help you. If you tell me you were helped, you are either lying or it is just a coincidence.ā€ The sad part of this is how many patients go without being helped because of doctors with this attitude?

What about those that are not biochemists and cannot figure this out on their own? However, you did and good for you! That is a great success story.

In general the medical community is ignorant in hormones, I’ve seen a guy who was is a bad car accident go to the Mayo clinic and they never even tested his growth hormone levels for which he was deficient, the medical community or western medicine is way the behind in sex hormone knowledge.

The average doctor is quite dumb when it comes to hormones and most are sheep being taught the same stuff in medical school which is basically nothing pertaining to sex hormones and the HPTA.

The cardiologist’s who specialize in the heart know nothing about testosterone/TRT, they only believe the bad things they have heard or been taught. It’s common to hear of men seeking private doctors for TRT and the cardiologist’s freaking out telling their patient’s if you don’t stop TRT, I’m will not treat you anymore.

If you doctor can’t prescribe drugs or perform procedures, their uninterested in treating you.

It nice to hear you found a good doctor to treat you.

Yes unfortunately i need to agree. I have the impression this has to do something with the lack of scientific education in medical school. And when things are not standard or are not thought in medical school most physicians are kind of either lost or uninterested in getting the knowledge. Most physicians i personally know have actually never used eg pubmed to read and educate them.

My last urologist, who is really a kind person, open to discussion and a well known expert in my country didnt really understood my concern of T transmission to kids and wife when he wanted to start me off T gels. I showed him the papers and the regulatory submission documents of the most prescribed gels which demonstrate how easily this thus stuff is transmitted from your skin to other persons even when wearing a shirt. You simply dont want to put this stuff on your shoulders and then carry around a 2 year old one. I guess the pharma sales reps dont pass on this information.
Of course there are also the super educated and interested guys out there. For example i enjoy listening to Rand McClain on Muscleinsider or reading in this forum.
