I work out at Worlds and love it. But there are a few strange ones there too. Like “bone density” guy. His stated goal is to make his bones bigger and doesn’t want to bulid his muscles any bigger… I’ve observed him struggle to pick up a set of 100lbs dumbbells, stand up, turn around 360 degrees and put them back down. Then there’s the set of guys that sort of lay face down on the chin/dip assit machine and “press” the support bar…
But if it’s too far, i’d suggest do what I do and live in PB. Just awesomeness…
Though i’ll start classes at SDSU in the fall and plan on getting a few workouts there just cause the female population.

There’s plenty o’ladies roaming around PB, for sure.
But once school starts at SDSU Lake Murray is a good spot for some steady state cardio.

I might transfer next year (2011). The weight room is great compared to what I’ve got. They’ve got bumper plates and oly lifting platforms and like 11 squat racks/power cages and a bunch of HS machines!!!11111

Does anybody work out at Stern’s Gym in North Park? It is pretty old school…
If anybody wants to have a prowler party or drag sleds let me know I live in North Park. And I still get to work out at the NAB Coronado gym because I am active duty and work on the base there.

Never lifted at Sterns before but I also live in North Park. Where do you do your prowler work? Balboa?

Stern’s is off of Granada and University, it is a very old school gym, Bill Pearl used to train there while he was in the Navy here. It is currently owned by Shannon Miller, Mr. Michigan from like 1980, has pics of a lot of bodybuilders from the 80’s, I get a membership every now and then. I like the 24hr at Balboa/805 the best, has the power racks, old tbar row and pullover machine.
I do the prowler work behind my apt in the alley. marked off 60 yards on the concrete. The thing weighs about 135lbs or so. have done 6x50yards was more than enough. i drag the sled on the grass in my complex for round trips of about 60 yards, waiting on some spud straps they made for me with handles built in for upper body rehab work. Just throw a kettlebell on it for weight.

Hey b12sblue2002 and .greg.
I live in North Park too. Saw that pic of the guy on his laptop at the Pt Loma 24 (I work out there usually). I had a sled but it was stolen so I just started pulling a tire and working with a sandbag up at balboa park across from the tennis courts. Let me know if you guys ever want to get together and work out.
sandbag work sounds cool, never did it, do you have different sizes or just one and fill it with different amounts of bags? I was going to get some rope so I can pull the sled with my arms for upper body. I think we should do a sled/kettlebell/sandbag workout this weekend or something…
@Greg I work at EWTGPAC, in charge of the Navy training branch there. Used to be the XO at ACU1 a few years back, so have been at NAB from 2005-2006 and now 2009-2011 and will probably retire from there. SBT is right across the street from me, they roll out the bumper plates and do drill all the time
And Mo’s has a great 10oz sirloin with potato for $13, can’t beat it, Baha Betty’s has good Carne Asada…

yeah thats where I worked for 5 years. I was involved in building/ordering all the gym equipment so it sucks now to go to a gym none of that equipment. No trap bars, no kettlebells, no ropes to climb, no tires to flip/sledge and no versa climber… (im starting to depress myself just thinking about it! ha)
I contacted the guy who owns Fat Gripz and he shipped a bunch of strongman equipment for our Marine Raid branch: farmer’s walk bars, log press, dragging sled, and a bunch of the fat gripz. some of the guyz sent him videos of it, I have a quote on the site since he donated the equipment, thought it was really cool of him. I feel your pain…
I couldn’t find any kind of gym that has that gear either around here, which is why I got the sled. I keep my car in the garage, but was on craigslist weekly looking for a power rack to start my own garage gym. Just got a 44lb KB off there last weekend. Stern’s has a good vibe, but is smallish. Been to Gold’s and World’s but I am too lazy to drive there, the base is just so much easier and although it isn’t my fav, the hillcrest 24hr works sometimes too, although I am the only guy who squats in the squat rack all the way down I thought about Crossfit Coronado since it has a lot of SPECWAR retired guys in there with ropes etc, but don’t want to drive across the bridge on the weekend.

hey b12sblue2002,
my 50lb sandbag busted a hole yesterday but I just got another bag today-haven’t used it yet but it is close to 90 lbs and will be some fun. I also just started using a 10lb sledgehammer yesterday. I’ll be out of town this weekend but if you can make it during the week I’ll probably head over to balboa park again around 5pm (upas st across from the tennis courts) on weds or thurs.
