I know i’m jumping in out of no where here but I wanted to just say a few things. Saying Chris isn’t “saved” because he’s catholic is limiting God. If someone believes that we are born sinful and deserve hell but Christ came and died for the opportunity to be redeemed and made new then I would consider that person a believer, even the catholics haha. The true issue of salvation is when there isn’t any change in that persons life. You can confess your a Christian till the day you die but if your lifestyle doesn’t reflect it then you are not, its that simple.
1 John 1:5-10
5This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;
7but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
As for Catholicism, I will say that any religion or practice whose focus deviates and distracts from Christ is not pleasing to God. Praying to the Saints or Mary or Angels is a form of this, In Revelation 22:8-9 an angel appears to John and he begins to worship it. the angel tells him to stop.
8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. 9But he said to me, “Do not do that I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God.”
Anyone or thing that is of God will not accepted any type of worship or praise, they will simply point you to Christ… Catholics shouldn’t hold the Pope in such high regard in my opinion.
Im not trying to just rip on Catholics btw, I think most churches today are guilty of this, including the denomination I belong to. Almost all denominations teach that if you follow God your life will be good and you’ll be blessed… Thats just putting the focus on ourselves! Follow Christ by faith, do what his word says, spread the good news, and it wont matter what denomination you are, ill see you in heaven.

No, and if he were consistent with what his church once taught he wouldn’t believe I would be either. I would sincerely respect that. Devotion to the catholic church is a symptom. God does not damn anybody because they belong to any certain church or not. We’re all born damned. False religions simply facilitate a state of affairs in one’s life where any other thing conceivable than the simple true saving gospel is believed and we stay that way. It is the satanic spirit of the pharisees. Busy, busy, busy with “God’s work”, but a rather polite and unintrusive relationship with personal sins of the heart where God dwells in His children.
This is no “thus saith the Lord.” I could be wrong in his case and would be elated for that to be true. I can only go by what I see and hear. I will say that not one of the elect body of Christ can possibly die before their authentic conversion to new life in Him. I spend a considerable amount of time praying this is Chris (and you too). Yep, that makes perfect sense even if everybody’s predestined.
I will likely be compelled to comment further on this, but I have stuff to do now. Life is not always fun, but God is always just.

Tirib, if you are seriously going to rail against the Catholic Church, you really, really need to learn about it first. You really just don’t know what you are talking about and it is evident. Your not spreading “the Good News” by regurgitating misinformation.
You need to get off of your evangelical high-horse and take the time to humble yourself and learn, then comment. God gave the church for man to run, therefore it will not be perfect, but it is his and will always be so. Rewriting history and hysterical biases do not do you or anybody else any good. Do you really want to live in truth or mire in your biases? I think the latter.

So Chris believes you are going to hell since you don’t have communion with the Pope, and you believe Chris is going to hell because he is dead to Christ.
Salvation is the most important thing to get right, wouldn’t you agree? So how do you know who is right?
Both of you are good people. Both of you have faith. Yet you disagree on this most important question. Clearly, faith is insufficient to support either of your claims.
Do you see what I’m saying?

Praying to the Saints (which includes Mary, but since she is the Holiest of all Saints we say Mary and the Saints) is short hand to asking to the Saints to pray for us. This is equivalent to asking someone to pray for you, but the Saints being more righteous than us on earth, are answered when they pray. We don’t worship Saints or Mary, we honor them. Praying to the Saints is an old tradition back to the Jews who invoked the mother’s name of the person they were praying for.
Yes you shouldn’t worship false idols, again we honor them not the same thing as worship…at all.
You don’t give mere children praise for their good works? You don’t give judges honor? Next time you are ever in a court, don’t address the judge as “Honor” just call him by his first name, see how that goes. If you don’t realise that being a faithful Christian puts you into a KINGDOM, where honor is due to those more righteous than us. Heaven is not a democracy, Christ is King, we are not equals to Christ or lesser’s with a vote. If you don’t realise that this is a kingdom, with a King, then you got a lot to learn.
Good thing it is not your opinion, but God’s will. And, why do you have a problem with the Pope, Jesus did give Peter the keys to Heaven for a reason, the reason why King Solomon put in place the office of chief of the Kingdom, he ruled why Solomon was gone. Even the Orthodox knows that supremacy of the Bishop of Rome.

Correction, if Tirib actually knows the truths which the Catholic Church teaches, then he is denying those truths, and evading his reasoning faculties, and therefore denying the Holy Spirit which works through the Catholic Church. However, I have no qualms about saying that Tirib’s knowledge of Catholic Theology is off.
I study under a Latinist when I can, and have access to someone with a masters in Greek and Hebrew (Priest friend of mine). And, I have trouble still with understanding stuff. I won’t say I am a genius, but I pretty much am. So, if I can’t understand the full spectrum of His bride, I’m not going to expect someone outside the fold to. I don’t expect most people inside the fold to understand all the Truths that the Catholic Church believes, so to say that Tirib knows and denies the Catholic Church’s teachings is a little far fetched. Especially he doesn’t speak on them correctly.
So, no. In no way do I think Tirib is going to Hell (again I can’t say which way anyone is going, I can make judgments on the fruit of their labor, but ultimately it matters at the last moment when Tirib dies and his relationship with God). He’s a good family man, has faith in the Lord, I assume because of that Faith he does good works and desires his Lord’s heart, even though he doesn’t participate in the sacraments.
I can pass judgments in the manner that if a man does not pass this criteria (whatever it maybe) that he will go to Hell. However, man is more complicated and we don’t have a vision to look inside a fellow man, and would be imprudent of us to caste judgement when we do not know all the information. However, God has given us a way to know if men that have passed are in the presence of the Lord.

There is no way we can possibly have the same gospel gifted to mankind by the same God. There is just no way. I read posts like this and it is crystal clear that this is EXACTLY what is being warned about all over the New Testament especially. It’s frightening.

I understand what your saying but heres two verses that came to mind when I read this, first
“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Tim. 2:5).
Theres no need to consult any saints… not once does the Bible instruct us to pray to saints. Rather it says to pray for each other, pray directly to God through Christ, or that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us. I would rather follow what the Bible says as opposed to “old tradition”
Also Deuteronomy 18:10-11
10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who CONSULTS THE DEAD.
If were instructed not to consult the dead how can someone justify doing it. When Saul had the witch of endor bring up Samuel it wasnt a good or justifiable action… it was sinful.
Samuel 28: 15 Samuel said to Saul, â??Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?â??
Samuel was disturbed by this act, not happy to uplift Saul and give him advice. Its not like we can just communicate with the dead at will,
As for Mary, I believe that she should be well respected and honored as the mother of Christ but the fact is she wasn’t perfect… (romans 3:23)
The only perfect on is JESUS!
Like I said before, I dont think catholics are not christians or anything, but the focus should be on Christ alone! Having statues of saints and prayers to them is not Biblical but tradition, I may not be as informed on Catholic tradition as you are but I am informed on the word of God.
