And donāt forget another reason, which is my reasonā¦i am 57 and I donāt want to spend 6 days a week in the gym like I did 10 to 30 years agoā¦i still work a minimum 50 hours a week, travel an hour each way to work and I love to golf, therefore 3 full body HIT style workouts at 20 minutes each is perfect, on the days I donāt do HIT, I enjoy walking/running and practicing my golf skillsā¦therefore HIT is a decent way to get into and/or improve my health
Just my humble opinion
Im 53 and CANāT spend that time in the gym like 20-30 yrs ago!
If you have 60 seconds you can bang out 10 pushups then keep watching TV or brushing your teeth or whateverā¦
Then build from there. Donāt let the end product fool you, getting into the type of condition being discussed is a process.
If you have a favorite TV show you can get 50 pushups in during commercial breaks.
Exactly. The whole reason I do daily training is to spend LESS time in the gym.
Sure why not. Only thing is you may lack super heavy lifting in certain areas if the muscle ised previously is exhausted
Yeah. It has been a thing with me for a while to convey to mhy kiddo that fitness doesnāt only happen in a gym or by sophisticated methods.
Itās simple. Bang out some pushups. Do some jumping jacks. It can even be fun. Smack some logs with an axe.
Have you ever seen what occurs at a strongman competition? I assure you people can be strong when theyāve exhausted their muscles.
I think you misunderstood?
That is certainly a possibility. Can you elaborate?
Different energy systems.
People always want to bag out on different types of work without looking at the different energy systems, like somehow a little cardio is going to affect their bodyweight deadlift or that a little metabolic conditioning is going to somehow detract from their position in the continuum between where they are and what theyāre actually capable of.
Like, if one loses a gram or two of glycogen doing pushups or burpees or something, eat an orange.
Iāll see if I can find a good video summarising Dan Johns Easy Strength for you. It should get the idea across pretty well by someone whoās been in the couching game for 40+ years and is still practising what they preach at well north of 60 years old.
@entsminger mate you are hilarious. Shades of Homer Simpsonās dad ![]()

Iām not so much interested in strength as hypertrophy . Iām pretty much as strong as I need to be but Iād like to be more muscular.

Iāve been lifting for some 50 years so I know when something is effecting my performance. Once I started adding negative chins to my already fairly hard workouts I could feel the negative effects on my body, negative chins are very draining. Concentric chin efforts did nothing to advance my chinning but eccentric ones did but at a price I didnāt want to pay.

Initially you expressed interest in understanding how this works. Now, when presented with an established author and a source that will explain it, you no longer are interested?
I believe you. I know that there are mitigating factors in how people perform. Man, do I know.it isnāt meant to be a judgment, just an observation based on conversations with others.
Also, This sisnāt directed to you as an order or instruction, just putting it out there in general conversation.
Kinda like this:
Person A āHow did you do that?ā
Person B āI started at x, then did xy, and eventually got to xyzā.
Person A āOh. OK. Thanks.ā.
Dude, when Discovery puts on their Battle bots or Mythbusters marathon Iāll show you some couching game!
One question Iāve had about this, Are you attempting to do just regular chins or are you trying some hit style technique with those too?
