Got my ass kicked. Defense and offense are really hard when you’re gassed and the opponent isn’t.

I am no expert, but maybe you should do more shadowboxing and footwork exercises, learning how to shuffle and jump would be quite beneficial. You are a big guy so overhand on shuffle can be on of your strongest punch.

shuffle

and there is an exercise we do for proper footwork and punching called “square”:
-maintain your stance
-do a punch with stepping forward with front leg(a jab for example) and bring your back foot forward after the punch
-do the same thing with side step to right
-now same with step back
-repeat it going left
you should be moving in square trajectory, when you will become good at it try to move angles a bit and trying different punches.
and my last advice to always stay calm and to snap punches(here is a great article about it http://www.sugarboxing.com/shadow-boxing-snap-in-general/ )try to snap at hips so shoulder and arm would fly to the target and tense arm in the last moment.
I hope this helps.

Thank you I will check out those links tonight.

Got away from weight training my joints needed a break and I have a lot of trigger points around my knees causing knee pain. Feel well rested and going to try to train weights this evening. Overall. I feel like I am the strongest and well conditioned I’ve ever been and it’s a lot of fun. I want to push the envelope even more.
