Funny you should put them as your top songs. There was a battle of the bands competition this time last year on one of the local radio stations.

They picked the 32 biggest bands and squared them off against each other in an elimination format. The 3 best songs for each band were played.

The Unforgiven, Enter Sandman and Wherever I May Roam were the 3 they played for Metallica.

I’m sure they only had the one album.

Incidently Metallica lost in the semi finals to U2.

Agreed. That is why I thought it would be an interesting thread.

Agree!!!

song should be on everyone’s list…

  1. Master of Puppets
  2. One
  3. Damage Inc.
  4. Metal Militia (i wish i had a live recording of that from around the Justice tour)
  5. Seek and Destroy
  6. Disposable Heroes
  7. Blackened
  8. Dyers Eve (Under-rated song in my opinion)
  9. Trapped Under Ice
  10. Orion

Any Metallica is so fuckin’ good, but their earlier shit is far superior, unfortunately.

I was at both shows in San Diego when it was recorded there. Only thing that sucked was that their dialogue was scripted exactly the same for both nights.

1-4. Justice Medley
5. Creeping Death
6. Master of Puppets
7. One
8. Battery
9. Welcome Home
10. For Whom the Bell Tolls

you’re a highly intelligent human being…

Thank you Cohen for putting Hit the Lights in there.

Tough to put in any kind of order, but here goes…

1)For whom the Bell Tolls
2)Ride the Lightning
3)The Four Horsemen
4)Sad But True
5)Fade to Black
6)The Unforgiven
7)The Thing that Should Not Be
8)To Live is to Die
9)One
10) Anything that’s not on that piece of shit St. Anger album. Or Reload for that matter.

EDIT Wow, I’m surprised I’m the first guy to have Ride the Lightning - I’ve got a liking for heavy mid-paced tracks. Not really knocking anyone else’s choices though.

NO ONE’S list should contain anything from Load forward, IMO. There may be some OK or even good songs on those later albums, but NONE compare to anything from the Black album and before.

  1. Orion
  2. Harvester of Sorrow
  3. Master of Puppets
  4. Fade to Black
  5. Dyers Eve
  6. Leper Messiah
  7. Call of Ktulu
  8. Creeping Death
  9. Disposable Heros
  10. My Friend of Misery

Fuck. Bono is a shithead.

  1. Nothing Else Matters
  2. Fade to Black
  3. The Unforgiven
  4. The Outlaw Torn
  5. Master of Puppets
  6. Until It Sleeps
  7. One
  8. Wherever I May Roam
  9. Sad But True
  10. Don’t Tread On Me

anything song up to AND JUSTICE FOR ALL I cant stand anything else they have done. I had this dicussion with a guy at work. I wish they would go back to their old sound kind of like what slayer did on their new album. The way I see it most Metallica fans like them no matter how shitty they sound so because of this they will be aloud to keep making shitty music.

DAMN BRO!!! Thought I was alone. I couldnt agree more and only a FEW on the Justice albnum are worth a shit. Pre and Justice is the way to go for me. If I need a Lolabye to get some sleep throw in some Justice and well the rest is garbage IMO. Prior albums back to the hardly released and hear “No Life Till Leather” are still and will be what set the Bar for Metal IMO along with the likes of Slayer, old Megadeth etc.

Kill em’ All - the whole thing.

  1. One
  2. Master Of Puppets
  3. The Unforgiven
  4. Harvester Of Sorrow
  5. Sanitarium
  6. Nothing Else Matters
  7. Battery
  8. For Whom The Bell Tolls
  9. Creeping Death
  10. Whisky In The Jar (ok so it’s a cover but it kicks so much ass I think it counts)
  1. Free Speech for the Dumb
  2. Bad Seed
  3. everything else pre- St Anger
  1. One
  2. Damage Inc.
  3. Battery
  4. Die, Die, Die My Darling(cover)
  5. Am I Evil(cover)
  6. Nothing Else Matters
  7. Blackened
  8. Motorbreath
  9. Seek and Destroy
  10. So What (cover)
  1. Hit the Lights
  2. Creeping Death
  3. Four Horsemen
  4. Blitzkreig
  5. Battery
  6. Orion
  7. Blackened
  8. Breadfan
  9. God that Failed
  10. Ronnie

That was a hard list to compile. So much of their stuff is dear to me, so that is not the only ones I like. These are the ones that stand out.

The Black album ONLY sounds good live. Otherwise it’s bubblegum. “Of Wolf and Man”. Please!
