Twice as pretentious as Greg Lake? Think again.

I have to add Aenemia too. That song is incredible.
I cant say what I want to,
Even if I’m not serious.
Things like…
fuck yourself,
Kill yourself,
You piece of shit.
People tell me what to say,
What to think ,
And what to play.
I say…
go fuck yourself,
You piece of shit.
Why don’t you go kill yourself?
Just kidding.
Don’t forget Schism !!
Parabol/Parabola top my list.
Aenima, The Pot and Lateralus are also awesome tracks. Actually, aside from some “emptier” tracks on each album, it’s all pretty brilliant stuff.
My mornings are never complete without: heavy music and heavy lifting.
No one has mentioned their remake of “No Quarter?”
That song kicks ass!
I could probably list my top five off each album…
Opiate:
Opiate
Cold and Ugly
Jerk Off
Part of Me
Hush
Undertow:
Swamp Song
Sober
Prison Sex
Undertow
Intolerance
Anema:
Eulogy
Anema
Stinkfist
46 & 2
Push It
H.
Lateralus:
Lataralus
The Grudge
Schism
Parabola
Ticks and Leeches
10,000 Days:
The Pot
Jambi
Vicarious
10,000 days
Rosetta Stoned
Just 5??? Yikes.
I’ll give it a shot.
Man, that was tough. The only ones I’m sure of are 1 & 2. Beyond that it’s a toss-up between any song on the Aenema or Opiate album/EP. And of course Undertow was awesome. (my first exposure to Tool, making 2 of my “top 5”)
Unfortunately, I’ve only given Lateralus and 10,000 days a few listenings. But I’ll begin work to remedy that immediately. I’ve played Aenema and Opiate so many times I probably don’t need the CD’s anymore; my player probably has them burned into its circuits by now! ![]()

Cool. Well then I guess I’m in the clear :-). I just said that because they play Schism a lot on the modern rock station where I’m from, so I figured maybe some of the more dedicated fans didn’t like it as much. Tends to be the way it goes with hardcore fans and the more mainstream stuff…[/quote]
I would never say “commercial”. The only song that might approach “over played” might be Sober, back in the day.
But that’s such a great tune, even then, I never got tired of hearing it.
I won’t even try just naming five, but my ex-girlfriend has been calling me lately so I’ll go with “Intolerance” as my at-the-moment favourite.
FOr a tool fan making a shortlist is almost impossible. I have now seen them twice live, I don’t think anyone can even come close to describing how awesome they are. Superscience did you see them at Punchestown 4 years ago? Unreal stuff altogether. Saw them on their 10 000 days tour as well which was awesome. I love the new album but as far as individual tracks go only The Pot could probably make a top track list.
Ok I’m gonna give a very rough 5 but it means little as the depth of their work is too great to whittle the list down to just 5.
As for favourite album? Mine is Lateralus. The overall body of work here is amazing. The rhythms, the hooks, the lyrics, the message. Its my favourite album of all time by any band.

See, my thing about Lateralus is that is seems that Maynard was more into A Perfect Circle albums, and not so much Tool. I was a bit disappointed with it. In fact the A Perfect Circle albums, especially the first one, is better than Lateralus, IMO.

“I’ve been wallowing in my own chaotic insecure delusions.”
LOVE that line.
Dunno why. But it’s stuck out for me since the first time I heard the song.

I give Greg Lake credit becaus he wrote simple, beatiful songs for ELP. On a related note, twice as pretentious as Keith Emerson? If not yet, they’re certainly reaching there.
I just saw tool play at the Continental Airlines Arena on Friday last week.
Simply amazing, to say the least. They Opened with Stinkfist (Extended), lead right to The Pot, 46&2, Lost Keys - Rosetta stoned, Schism, Wings for Marie -10,000 days, a few more, and ended with Aenema (this is close to the order I remember).
My seats sucked, but im lucky to even have scored them. I am slightly bewildered why they havent played anything from Undertow or Opiate. Im not dissapointed, it was an amazing concert and it was worth every dollar.
The Pot is defidently an awesome song. Jimmy is an all time favorite, and Pushit (live) is the story of my life. I cannot simply name 5 like most of you, the songs all speak to a part of my bieng. As strange as that may be I know Im not alone.
Im sorry for posting on this months later
How about top 10? Narrowing it down to 5 is impossible.
10,000 Days (The Wings pt. 2)
Pushit
No Quarter (Zep cover)
Bottom
Eulogy
Jimmy
Prison Sex
Part of Me
Parabola
Flood
Mmm top 10 is too hard also, the top 5 that i listed aren’t even my top 5 no more, because i can’t choose. Maybe picking albums would be easier.
I might be going to see them in november if i manage to get the funds.
in no particular order and mainly one fave from ea. album (yes, this was tough…)
the pot
the grudge
46&2
sober
opiate
side note: saw them live for the first time here in vegas…sept 1 i think? tongue still dragging.

Greg Lake was only in King Crimson momentarily (as were a whole list of different musicians). That was Robert Fripp’s band. Greg Lake was more involved with Emerson, Lake and Palmer (an excellent band for the time)…
Tool is too amazing to just pick five songs. I saw them when aenima first came out in salem, Ore. armory and they played stinkfist to the video that Adam Jones just finished in Tacoma, Wa.
I think all TOOL is amazing and also feel that bands like them and Opeth are some of the best music to listen to when training even when the songs are a bit slower just from the pure energy they omit.
BTW OPETH’S newest album is incredible!!!
