I think I get too much tuna, I always have a can before bed =/. Apparently this is like 5 times more than the ‘healthy’ range, I know these things are bullshit but still it raises the issue, am I eating too much? What are some good alternatives to get a quick protein fix (besides protein shakes) instead of tuna?
cottage cheese or greek yogurt
There’s nothing wrong with your tuna eating habits.

Eggs and/or nuts
STOP EATING CANNED TUNA!!! It is rubbish that will only increase the toxins in your body.
Anything in a can for that matter is crap!
Eat a steak of any other wild meat 1-2 hours before bed…eating too close to sleeping is no good. Digestion can mess with your sleep and GH accordingly.

Here we are making strides every day to rid ourselves of this dogmatic bullshit but yet you have to come and ruin that. Why the fuck?

Then DON’T take ANY advice you don’t want to hear or believe. It’s simple…results in the end, will dictate what you should be doing.
If eating tuna for years and years doesn’t do shit to you and leads to nice gains etc good for you, stick with it.
Anyway…I personally have improved results dramactically by switching sources. Also, not eating to close to bed time…better sleep. If it’s just in my head, I really don’t mind…because it’s still working, haha

Hmm… thats concerning…so whats wrong with canned tuna?
I eat quite a bit more than you. some days three cans during work hours, only if i ran out of premade food though. i cant cook at work so cans of tuna is an easy way out on those days but i hate the stuff.
A nutrition teacher I had once said that more than one can of tuna a day for over seven consecutive days could lead to mercury poisoning. Clearly you have proved that wrong but if you were still concerned an easy fix would be to eat salmon. It has a little bit less protein, but much lower levels of mercury.

I googled that shizz now and saw the same thing.
Excess mercury is the concern here. I sure will watch my consumption.
OMG!!! The most i had was 9 cans in three days, reason was i ran out of cash and just ate all my stocked up food i had at home, of which i had 9 cans of tuna, literally emptied the cupboards and freezer till i got paid. Hey, i still met my quota of calories for the day and kept my macros in check. although i had to drink some canola oil on the last day, but you gotta do what you gotta do…hehehe
hmmmm…
“severe cramping, diarrhea, intestinal bleeding and a metallic taste in the mouth.”
ok im not eating as much canned tuna again, yesterday was one of those days where i had 3 cans at work cause i ran out of food and was not prepped, last night i had cramps, and this morning(and often other mornings that i now suspect was a high tuna day before) diarrhea like episode, i often have a metallic taste in my mouth(this actually conserned me a bit as i noticed it), it all suddenly seems to link together, the metallic taste is normally around the higher tuna periods, i have it right now, the morning cramp in my gut with runny tummy that i get sometimes.
dunno if my head is just running away with me here. either way i`ll be playing it safe
Thanks alot webbycun, i would never even have known!
There, read it, it is not a concern. Although it would be wise to compare sources of both information and tuna.
The thinking in this thread confuses the shit out of me. “OMG an anecdote, OMG! Apparently there are symptoms of toxicity. I WILL CURTAIL MOST IF NOT ALL CONSUMPTION WITHOUT CHECKING THE AMOUNT OF MERCURY NEEDED FOR TOXICITY AND SEEING IF I AM CLOSE TO THAT LIMIT.”
why does it feel like someone is developing a tuna-cycling diet right now?
How about canned chicken. The stuff from costco is pretty good.
As others have mentioned, the real issue with eating too much tuna is the risk of mercury poisoning. The FDA recommends having less than 1PPM in your blood, which is essentially less than 4 cans of tuna a week. However, I think this can depend on what you are used to. Japanese people eat fish all the time without major cases of mercury poisoning, but I’ve also read that drinking green tea while eating fish can reduce the absorption of mercury by up to 90%, so maybe that’s why they are able to eat so much fish without a problem. Or maybe it’s because they eat fresh fish.
Stupid topic is stupid.
I guess it isn’t such a problem then, pretty sure I’ve had a tin of tuna for most nights now for the past 12 months (apart from when stock in my cupboard had ran out). Even so, I think I better switch to someting better, bring on the steak!
Haha whiplash I seriously LOLed at your posts, you seem to be terrified about the whole ordeal. You shouldn’t take things on the internet toooo seriously and you might just be noticing those things now you’re aware of the symptoms. Anyway it probably would be recommended to cut down anyway.

This heavy metals in canned tuna debate has been going on for the past 2-3 decades…
I just wish people would get their $hit together and publish a decent study on it, not tainted full of crap (e.g. using tuna/salmon caught downstream from a nuclear power plant and labelling all tuna/salmon as the devil based on the 5 eyed monster they caught that glows in the dark, sprouts legs when touched and breaks into a dance)…
Oh yeah, maybe I should add that selenium is able to bind to mercury and excrete it from the body.
So if you eat eggs, you can eat tuna. And since we all eat eggs, end of discussion.
What. The. Fuck.
Search function motherfucker.
Secondly, once your body gets accustomed to a certain level of mercury in it, it immediately rids itself of any extra mercury ingested, so long as the rate you consume mercury at isn’t fucking crazy high, like drinking pure metal.
When the hell did we start giving a fuck what the FDA approves? Last I checked they said more than like 7 eggs a week would make you fat, and after a couple months of 12+ eggs a day, I still feel fine, and am stronger and as lean as ever. Fuck the FDA.
