I don’t know about other people, but one of the reasons I like lifting at the gym is so that I can be around stronger guys who make me feel weaker. It motivates me to put up some more weight.

Strenuous exercise (and lifting) is best done in the company of people faster/stronger than yourself. That’s how you improve.

I would love to workout at a real powerlifting gym where guys deadlift 6,7,800lbs. It’s practically a certainity that that environment will benefit you more than sharing a room full of delicate weak people.

The gym I’m at, there’s one other kid, about my age who had picked up more than 400lbs. I’ve seen a couple other kids my age put way too much weight on the bar for squats, nearly fucking themselves up doing partial squats. One of them even got pinned under the bar on the smith machine. Last night another kid was deadlifting 385lb and dropped one side. These guys take the “boost your ego” thing too far and actually hurt themselves.

I completely agree with you. I hate the gym i workout at just because there are only maybe 5 or 6 guys that are actually stronger then me. I worked out at a more hardcore gym a week or so ago and it motivated me to push harder on every rep just being in there. Obviously ill be joining that gym very soon

One time this spandex clad gym wife(you know the type)insisted on doing bent over rows in front of me. It was awesome.[/quote]

A similar thing happened to me except she was in her late 50’s and kept trying to make eye contact. I was 15 at the time.

It was creepy.
