To the T-Nation Vets

Was T-Nation always this fucked up, or is it a recent trend? I’ve only been here about a year, but I don’t really remember it being this infested with neo-cons, neo-libs, twenty religion threads at every corner, twenty newbies posting skinny before pics and never responding to their thread again, etc etc etc.

What happened?? The only sane forum left is Supplements and Nutrition, but who the hell goes there anymore?

If you stay out of the Politics and World Issues forum you should be able to avoid 98% of that. The newbie pics? Not such a new thing really, but again, if you stay out of the Physique and Performance Photos forum, you’ll likewise avoid them.

Why are you whining? Who is holding the gun to your head? There is still an abundance of great reading here.

How to you mend a broken heart?

I think that was an Andy Gibb/Barbara Streisand song…

NTTAWWT…

That is actually the reason I have stopped posting nearly as much, I still read some of the site, but was getting very burnt out.

I think there are just many younger people on the site than there used to be, also, seems to be many non-trainees.

I look in all the forums and laugh alot, but don’t post too much. I’ve been looking on this site since 01, and many a things have changed. Still a great free site, and my home board though.

fucked up? sure…

but, IMO, T-Nation is the most entertaining non-porn site on the internet*, and a BIG part of the entertainment value comes from all the nut-jobs that regularly post here…

there are numerous other weightlifting/bodybuilding/
powerlifting/athletic
sites out there with great information available, but I haven’t found any that are able to match this site’s level of “info-tainment”…

*which makes T-Nation about the 800,000th most entertaining site on the web. which is pretty good considering there are about four billion webs sites out there now. and hell, people have got to do/read something else once they’re done masturbating right?

What, can’t read and masturbate at the same time? I know women are supposed to be better multitaskers, but I was able to do it after man, many years of practise. Zen and the Art of One Hand Typing.

And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend a this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again.

Sniff…

And yes, he was part of the Gibb brothers…

I think the worst of it would be the people who really aren’t serious at all who feel the need to make everyone realize that they are people too.

I really don’t care about the people on this site who barely lift regularly and complain anytime someone recommends that a poster should gain some more size. We then get hit with 30 posts about how great it is to be skinny and how they do look like they lift if you compare them to the Hilton sisters.

There are more pictures of skinny dudes than there were in the beginning, but politics has always been a hot topic. I sort of like reading it sometimes just because I don’t know that many people in my personal life who are politically conservative.

Personally, the more time I spend on T-Nation, the lower my opinion of the site becomes. Sort of. This is not because the nature of the posters changed but because my perception of them changed.

For example, when I didn’t visit this site all that often, I would only read Atomic Dogs and articles. I think we can all agree that the articles here are almost all top notch. I thought, “Damn, T-Nation is the best site ever!”

I spent a little more time and read the blogs by TP, TC, Shugs, and Lowery (back when they all had them). I read the Think Tanks (when they were still around) and the Authors’ Locker Rooms. I read the posts relevant to training or the really amusing flame threads (Al Shades, XxCelticxX, etc.). And I thought, “The authors are witty, the posters know how to lay the smack down when it’s appropriate, and I think this site is awesome!”

Then I read everything else and realized that this site, like many others, is full of idiots.

Frankly, there’s nothing special about the time I joined or the time you joined. It’s still more or less the same site. Spend a little less time here, read selectively, and I’m sure your opinion will rise again. =)

It comes across in 75% of the posts that people are posting to post. They make little to no effort to educate themselves. They are ‘stereotypical’ x,y,and dig. age groups who feel they are entitled. Work hard and investigate–Hell no!. Just ask how you can drop a quick 20 lbs of fat off your 175lb frame in 2 weeks because spring break is coming up. Gotta show them awesome abs, dude.

I mean, how many creatine questions can someone possibly come up with. 3-5grams after workout should suffice by the way.

I used to post much more frequently, but replying to the same questions got to be ridiculous. Then, you take the time to reply to someone who by the nature of their question, has little experience or knowlege in the field, and they blast you for your response and blow you off.

I enjoy the info, and truly enjoy many of the posters. Their style. Their wit. Their knowlege. BUT, the site does seem to have been taken over by a ‘neo’ class of people who bring little to the table except for bad typing, bad grammar, poor sense of humor, and a fair lack of common sense.

Apparently you don’t spend much time on other fitness-related sites…if you think T-Nation gets bad, hop on over and join the forums at bodybuilding.com, menshealth.com, professionalmuscle.com, etc.

Read those boards and I’ll bet T-Nation starts to look a hell of a lot better. This site, because the authors tend to cite research sources and explain the science in somewhat more realistic terms, cuts through a ton of the BS that permeates other forums. Honestly, some folks out there are still living in the 90’s when it comes to training, eating, supplementing, etc.

This is actually my first post. I have been on the site for about a year and have never signed up or decided to get into the forum wars.

I use this site purely for the articles, autors’ locker room and etc.

I feel the biggest problem is that trolls are getting all the attention. There are some good genuine posts made by people in all the categories that never get a response. Yet some teenager starts a thread saying ‘I got kicked out of school’, and it gets 100+ responses. The same goes for the skinny posters who have 3 months training under their belts and want to brag about a 4kg gain.

I think this site is by far the best resource for anyone in the Iron game. If you want to see fucked up, got to bodybuilders.com. Their forums are a disgrace.

I think it’s mostly the kids. We need a new site for them called Teen-Nation.

Ditto. Once I blocked the Politics forum, the signal-to-noise ratio found in the Top 30 improved radically. And every weekday there’s a new article, so there’s at least one interesting and edited thing to read.

That would actually be an excellent Forum Category.

The kids that don’t listen give me the shits. The one’s that do are doing themselves a world of favours. They have an amazing resource at such a young age.

I unfortuneately had a subscription to Flex at that age.
