To Spill Or Not to Spill?

Can you archive LiveSpill discussions?

So if a year from now if I want to read the questions and responses to the article, can I look in the archive for that information?
Yes:

Thanks Matt!

I will say this much:

At this point there is no plan to go back to forum discussions for articles. But, as mentioned you are more than welcome to start your own topics on them in the appropriate forum.

Also, keep in mind that this is barely version 1. Many changes and improvements are on the way. And we are taking your requests here into consideration as we make these changes.
Matt, you guys did away with the “Articles” forum.
You do see where the problem might exist wherein folks are unaware there is a thread pertaining to the article?

It would have been great to have a Discussion thread with Dave Tate, same with John R’s new article.

What is your suggestion for getting the attention of the authors that there is a thread regarding their articles?

That’s the thing…LowfatMatt is smart. I am assuming they just want to stand out for this…that and I am sure the authors get much less hassle when most of the people who would disagree with anything avoid the area.

You mentioned you didn’t like the love fest of “great article.” I didn’t like all the bashing that happened if someone was just determined to dislike an author despite it being a good article. And that would happen also.

I do like a roundtable idea, but I would still want a discussion thread afterwards because there are always questions. If you only have a select group of members that may be advance or more knowledgeable they may not have the same mindset of a Beginner. They may not ask the questions that others would want to have asked. That is something that can be addressed in a thread.

AND why don’t we have an “Articles” forum any longer?

X? could you clarify what you mean? I am taking from your statement that the authors of a testosterone driven website are shying away from someone that may disagree with them?

I don’t think there should be unwarranted bashing, but there should be exchange and discourse for and against ideas.

Is that hassle?

I agree and many people were just doing it to be pricks. I am speaking more of some of us actually debating because we also have knowledge in that area…not so much the newbs who are cussing out Thibs for no reason.

For instance, I already know your stance on the V-Diet, but that thread in the T-Cell still seems to catch people’s interest and it was not just an open bash of that author. It was real discussion.

You’ve been here long enough to remember that thread that Chad erased when we got into it over that article he wrote. I am not for unwarranted bashing either. I am for an open exchange of ideas.

I don’t really read these articles much and never did unless someone would bring one to my attention…but if I did read one and comment, it was because I had a well educated opinion. It wasn’t just to bash someone for no reason like I do see often as well.

Sure, I think people should do what works for them whether that be the V-Diet or the Paleo lifestyle.

Maybe it would be good to have a delay on article discussion threads and just moderate the junk. This website does moderate. I do realize that it would be extra work, but I really did enjoy the threads after an article. Questions were asked that never occurred to me.

Sure, and I do, but questions are also for the uneducated. Maybe even more so. Questions are for learning, not just to disprove.

Not every question needs to be a loaded gun. A question can be beneficial to a beginner who really wants to know. Best place to get the best answer is from the author.

I just am not a fan of LiveSpill, so not conducive to group discussion.

Articles and LiveSpill are used for the official publications of T NATION and its contributors. Forums are for all other non-official discussions. That’s where the separation is now.

If you want to start a forum discussion on an article, I’d suggest starting it in the forum category that best fits its topic (Training, Supplements and Nutrition, etc).

I hear you loud and clear on the new dynamics Matt.

I hope you don’t mind if we continue to discuss what some may prefer such as an “Articles” forum as used to exist, and a “Discuss” button.

I do understand that you are saying those options are absolutely not going to happen no matter if the majority of the members may prefer as such.

LiveSpill is a mess.

Authors aren’t likely to hunt around to find a thread about their article. ESPECIALLY if they need to try and figure out if it is in Condition, Bodybuilding, Training, or Get A Life.

Sure, and as I said, we’ll take these requests into consideration as we build things.

Just like everything on this site (and the internet in general), expect changes.

Changes blow. Expect much bitching

Changes are good, when they make things better.

That’s not what happened here with Livespill so yes…expect more bitching and a lot fewer readers.

Thanks Matt for responding.

I look forward to seeing what happens. If I were 18 I could probably follow LiveSpill a lot easier but it is just a bit messy for me. I hope the future versions help me to follow the Q&A and then for me, problem solved!

I was thinking about how LowFatMatt’s saying we can create a thread for any article, but if the author is so busy on LiveSpill, how would he ever first, FIND the thread in whatever forum since there isn’t an Articles forum any longer, and second have the time to respond?

The bummer is I would have loved reading the threads off of some of these recent articles. But then I should have just started the threads myself so my opportunity lost.
