Damn! A shit-ton of cash to keep her quiet.
Tiger can’t stay out of the record books.

Tiger Woods has reached a record divorce settlement with Elin Nordegren, MSNBC, Fox News and the UK’s Sun reported today.
Woods will pay his former wife between $750 million and $833 million, reports say, which would be the biggest payout ever seen in a high-profile divorce.
In return, Nordegren, 30, can never publicly speak about reported affairs
he had while they were married.
According to the deal, which is expected to be finalized soon, Nordegren gets complete custody of their children, but Woods gets to share in making decisions in their life.
Woods also has to keep his children away from his girlfriends or any other unmarried women that Nordegren does not know.
women suck.
f-ing ridiculous… even if you consider that the guy is far from broke after that.

Apparently rather willingly when you’re a billionaire athlete.
Gives new meaning to the saying “cheaper to keep her”.
This is what is wrong with our divorce system. If I were Tiger I’d let her say whatever the hell she wanted about the affairs in return for giving her less than half of that.

Yea, but in reality he has to try and protect what’s left of his image.
That’s bullshit though - yes, he sleazed around on her, but she doesn’t deserve 800 million fucking dollars - wow, heading toward a BILLION dollars for this bitch - fuck that.
I’d never have given full custody AND all that dough. I’d insist to be around my kids.
That leaves Tiger with what, 250-167 mil(ish)?
I think he’ll get by.

Yeah SHE is now HER own coorporation.
Yeah, this is a lot more than 1/2 his wealth. It just doesn’t make any sense.

This.
If he didn’t buy her silence, she could keep slowly releasing details to keep his affairs in the headlines as long as she wanted, thus keeping him from rebuilding his image and marketability.
Think what Kobe would be like now if a new “he nailed a hotel clerk in Colorado” story dropped every six months.
$0.8 billion is ridiculous money.

I wonder if all the guilt tripping while he was getting eaten alive by the media and lowering his self esteem had anything to do with it. People tend to make poorer decisions when there lives are coming apart.
What would even be like to see that money in your bank? $783,675,548.73 <Damn things are a bit tight this month.

He’s basically making a bet that he can rebuild his image and earn more than he just lost. Because if he can’t this was a stupid move on his part.

She got a sweet deal, could not have made that money on a book and publicity tour for sure. His lawyers must have figured it was worth it to be done with the entire episode and get back to the business of rebuilding Tiger’s image. I really hope that was a one time payout, can you imagine if he has to make child support payments on top of that?
What I don’t understand is why he entered a marriage without some kind of agreement in regards to divorce. It sounds like he left his assets unprotected. Not too smart for a guy who likes to fuck around.

And to do that he’d have to play as well as he has up to now for more than 10 years. He’ll never get his image back to what it was, and he may not play as well as he used to. This sounds like a terrible choice.
Tiger’s not a billionaire btw. His earning were a billion, but I never read anything about him being a billionaire.
I’m pretty sure this is MOST of his money. He might have >100 mill now.

Actually, I think this is the amount he has to pay her over a number of years. Not all at once, today.

Good point, what’s up with a prenup or something? Or, possibly the prenup was “void” if he cheats or something. Still, not a wise move on his part.

He’s worth more than a billion, which is different than saying he has a billion in assets.

My guess is that his prenup didn’t have a confidentiality clause, which is apparently the real value given the facts and circumstances here.
He might not have a billion in assets, but combine what he does have with earning potential, and he’s there.
I’m wondering if the deal is effectively a share of future earnings from all sources such that she has a stake in his image getting rehabilitated. There are damned few people that have $750 million in anything that could be converted to cash very quickly.
How old is his wife btw?
