Thyroid Medication - What Worked Best?

I have heard mixed reviews on T4 vs NDT, where it seems a lot of women don’t respond well to T4 only due to conversion issues with estrogen, but a lot of guys I spoke to do really well on it. Also if someone has an auto-immune thyroid condition, T4 can cause high reverse rt3 (among other issues).

For anyone on thyroid medication, what worked best for you and at what dosages?

No, it doesn’t work that way. High rT3 is caused by being sick, and in studies is linked directly to ongoing inflammation (C Reactive Protein elevation). It is not caused by T4 or abundance of T4, it is a symptom of a problem that needs to be corrected. If the brakes don’t work in your car, not putting gas in the tank doesn’t fix the broken brakes.

I should have worded that better, what I meant to say in cases of high rt3 adding more T4 is like adding wood to the fire. I agree, however, elevations in CRP definitely mean further investigation is required.

The Wilson theory actually is - more or less - what you actually wrote, so I wasn’t sure. I think really it just indicated that thyroid is not actually the issue. Taking T3 will certainly help the person in that position feel better, but so would a line of coke. It can be really tough to figure out the actual issue and it’s easier to use the band-aid when you’re suffering.
